Wow. I guess I live in a somewhat lower income area so most people give you a funny look like your from Star Trek or something.

I used to hide mine, because I hated hearing that if I had your money syndrome. Most thought I was crazy, well maybe I am, just a little :).

The other thing was always getting ones buns busted about all the toys, well I really never had toys when I was a kid. My most prized possesion, was a Weller Soldering Gun.

Same here, in my rural mountain town you are considered hi-tech if you own an early 80's nintendo Game & Watch.

I can not imagine it being a "chick magnet" unless we are talking about very young impressionable girls.

I can just picture an older woman thinking:

"Ooohhh, the way his muscles bulge as he furiously scratches away with his stylus! That sunbeam reflecting off the Clie casting a sexy glow on his forehead just gets to me!"

I've got an NR, and I whip mine out every chance I get (the Clie, that is)...and in the medical profession, it tends to be a bit of a chick magnet, too. It's funny though, a select few of my friends have an NX, and there's definitely a bit of Clie-envy when we're in the same room (I jumped on the NR a bit too soon, should have waited a little)

About the only public place, out side of work, that I whip it out is at at resturant. And some will will always say something from busboy to people having dinner. And while I do display for show factor I always try to see if there is a free wifi in the house. So far Chile's no and Ruby Tuesday's yes, Appleby's no... will be trying Roys, Caraba's and Fleming's soon... oh, going to try MickyDs also.

I'm afraid pride does cause me to show it off a little. though all the folks I'm around know I'm a gadget geek. They even call me Rev. Gadget, so no one is evern surprised any more when show up with anything new. But this DOES turn heads and make eyes bulge.

Being a chick myself, I tend to amaze the guys with the physics of the games, ie. billards, bowling, etc. To make a 'wow' connection on most all my friends, I ask if I can create an entry of them in my Address book so I can call them sometime, then I top it off by snapping a color still photo and pop it into the Clie Address book entry. That usually elicits a "Wow!" NX70 style.

Ditto that here. At work, especially, but also while shopping (SplashShopper) and when I got my new glasses, I took the time to enter my new prescription. The "That is cool!" was nice! And when a co-worker saw the app ThumbScan, he was ure it was real. "Wow, you really did get the top of the line!"

Agreed. When I am writing in hw or recording lectures or something, it always gets the "Whoa, neato!" deal. I love it.

What is thumbscan anyways?

I did that, too, but for different reason. When I go to my office in the morning, lots of people use 'normal-which means flat, monotone handheld' palm in the subway and I really do not want them to feel inferiority for my NX. This is why I don't show off NXy to the publc.

Today at work (Jersey Mike's today) some women needed directions. I got out my NX and fired up Mapopolis. I really did want to help, but it was great hearing them gawk over what I was doing. As I walked back my boss said "Feels good doesn't it?". I replied.. "Oh yes..." :D

my friend said i should get a zire (not z71) because it was better value. i said, listen - if i got that i would have chucked it out in three minutes. It would have taken that long for me to start it up, try to use it and then decide i didnt want if after my bros had finished harassing me.

I wish though, the clie had one extra feature - a dork repellent. These are the idiots that will literally drool on it. Also the ones who do the (mentioned before) ... i wish i could afford that ....

man i love my clie

People actually trip out on just the basics.

I mean like when I'm really working with a note or entering an appointment by directly writing on the screen.

The fact hits really hard when they want to see a pic of the kids, but only show them pics, but color video of the little ones in action also.

And geeks love the chess games as well.

I especially love hearing "Damn, you did take my picture!" after you said you would and just showed them you did.

With the nx, the geek factor is present, but in a much cooler package.

I'm just one of 6 personal trainers at a major gym using a pda for client and personal info.

People are use to seeing me whip it out (my nx70) right on the gym floor to schedule an appt (Out my many apps, my datebook is still the most important and most used app).

3 of us use a nx, so the wow factor here is not just what you have, but it's also how you use it that surprises people in our neck of the woods the most.

Just the other day, I was showing a friend what the NR is capable of doing. The rotating screen got the usual "ooh" and "ah" and and "cool!!". The mp3 player caused another round of the same sounds and the reaction to the camera was "really - does this take pictures too??!!!".

What was surprising, though, was the reaction I got when I hit the on/off button to switch it off: "OMIGOD! Is this how you turn this thing off?? You don't have to actually quit ANY applications?? AS SIMPLE AS THAT? That is MARVELOUS!!!

I guess after having used a pda for some time, we kinda get used to everything that it does, whereas even the most taken-for-granted functions seem to enchant people who haven't started using them. ;)

It's rare for anyone to even notice mine. Maybe it's because I'm in my own little world and I don't really notice people looking at me. I have attracted attention when using the camera though. "That's the strangest looking camera I've ever seen" was a recent comment.

I don't really like to show off my NR70v. It always gets people's attention. I do however, take it out and use it when I REALLY need to. Sometimes I listen to MP3s in class with the CLIE closed and people don't even realize that it's a handheld organizer...

Oh yea! I've had quite a few comments about how there is no boot up, or shut down. When I let people play with it they hand it back to me still on and say "How do you turn it off?" I show them the giant power button on the top of the unit and tell them to press it. "Are you sure? You don't shut it down or anything?"

Then I'll have them turn it back on just to show that it comes right back where you left it. Blows them away every time.

I love using my NR70v in public (- I'm a chick, btw). Was on the R train going to class after work. Playing Bookworm and listening to mp3's. This guy sitting next to me was looking at my NR with a bit of distain, but then curiosity got the best of him and he said "I don't know - those things are so expensive. Why would you waste money on that?" What nerve?!

I ran down the list of what it can do for the money:

pictures
books
news
mp3s
movies
games
video
apps (word, excel)
internet
phone dialer
appointments
phonebook
etc.

I felt bad as I handed him a tissue to wipe the grime from his jaw after scraping against the dirty NYC train floor...... :)
Shut him up effectively...

People also stop to ask me what is that. The regulars just call me "The gym geek"

well, being a "chick" myself I can tell that this attracts guys as well as girls even though I have old N760C. Today I was doing a mock survey of OR area (I am clinical RPh btw) and I took some pictures of areas with my MS Camera. So, I got attention of surgeons and did a picture for them of some specimen. Plus I was able to get one for my boss and now she is showing off by taking pictures of her grandchildren.

My favorite app to show off the palm besides
pictures
videos( recorded and downloaded)
mp3's
word docs
and cool Games

is vindigo
living in NYC and commuting to Boston for Work
vindigo was the original reason I bought a Palm V
it has all the restaurants, movies, museums, Music, and bars in the city, by location, cost, and rating.
it can map it for you and give you walking directions,or subway directions from your current location.

I have also given people directions to someplace that I have never heard without knowing the city(boston).

People usually want to take a peak at my T665c but the usually look at me like I'm a fool. That is until I explain what all that I do with it.

What I find amazing though is the number of people who say, "Oh, I have a PDA. I wonder what I did with it. Must be in a drawer somewhere."

You have one and you don't even use it for the basic functions? I think of several people who have said that to me.

actually something like that happened to me once on 8th grade, i were reading a book with one pda that is now broken (a HP Jornada 565) and some girl started looking a bit, then she got a group of people from her class and started approaching me... She asked me to show the cell phone i have (i heard her explain to them that i had some special cell phone with a clamshell design (the hp had a screen cover...)) after i showed her and her group my real cell phone, the group started looking confused, and the girl in question even more so...

also one thing i've been wondering about, the cell phones with cameras seem to be the only integrated-camera thing that people are talking about, they are all worried about using it to take pictures when shouldn't, as it would be almost a "spy camera" but what about the even smaller integrated-camera machines like my wrist-cam? it can take a picture, it's small, very hard to spot and easy to trigger...
but this is mostly in finland, could be different somewhere else

Don't normally show my clie off unless I asked about it.
However, a couple of weeks ago when I was dining out with my wife at TGI Fridays. Someone in the restaurant asked if the waiter could turn up the TV.

He explained that they "lost" the remote and that he couldn't reach the buttons without standing on someone in the booth directly under the TV.
So I "whipped out" (gunslinger fashion) my clie and promptly turned up the TV after the waiter told me what brand it was.

Then just for fun started changing channels.
You should've heard the cheer (mainly from kids) when I hit Cartoon network. SpongeBob was on.

I always thought that the TV's ran through a single box. But apparently each one can be tuned to a different channel.

Yep CLIE RMC.
Works pretty good too.
Been able to use it on just about every TV and VCR I've come across.
Haven't been able to change my cable box though.
Does anyone know of a "patch" or addin to allow cable box access?

Does anyone know of a "patch" or addin to allow cable box access? Check out the Yahoo group RMCEnhancer! They're SO awesome! A kind soul there came up with the definitions to my cable box (Scientific American) and it works BEAUTIFULLY! They're working on a lot of different ones, and also have a tutorial on how to do it yourself.

I really hate taking out my NR in public. It's the #1 reason I'm praying they make a T-series with VG, because I still want a PDA that can do everything besides my laundry, but to an observer it could be just any old Palm. I've tried to speed up the lift-up-screen-flip-around-push-down motion to be too fast for the human eye to perceive, but no matter how quickly I get it over with, usually somebody's like, "Wow, show me how you opened that!"

I can't tell you how many times I'll be sitting on the subway, either bored and in the mood for a round of Bejeweled, or wanting to check the map, or needing to look up information on the appointment that I'm going to, but I sit there and stare at the floor because I don't want to be a) mugged (which is admittedly unlikely most of the time), or b) -- very likely -- engaged by any person in visual range with the slightest mental instability. When I had other more "ordinary" handhelds, like a Visor Deluxe or m500, I would read e-books, make notes, work on my shopping list, and have no discomfort about taking it out to look something up. Now I only do it if it's really, really necessary.

I know people like to have flashy things to show off, but sometimes "look at me, I have a $600 piece of electronics in my pocket" is not something you want everyone to know. I love the latest, most expensive electronics, but I prefer ones that are powerful while not looking particularly different from an entry-level or mid-range model.
