Hotsync with IRDa Dongle

I recently bought an IRDa dongle off eBay to see if I could hotsync my Palm instead of using the cable. I have read on what other people have said in the past, but there didnt seem to be any good answers.

So is there a good way to configure the stuff to hotsync via an Ir dongle?

Well, I'm pretty sure that this thing I got from Hong Kong is worthless and doesn't work. So I'll be getting one from a computer store.

It seems like all the electronics I've gotten from Hong Kong (SpecTec, Kingsun) aren't working.
