Pruss' wonderful NVBackup has saved my hide on numerous occasions, but I'm having some problems with it recently. I have a whole bunch of old backups stored on my SD card that I'm using as a sort of archive. Those backups were made when I had my old Tungsten E2, and had password encryption. I'm currently using NVBackup 1.21, which I belive is current.

I recently got a TX, but would like to occasionally restore a file or two from my old archived TE2 backups. (I know I certainly don't want the entire backup set...) I still have encryption, the same password. When I try to do a selective restore of a couple files from these backup sets, I do not get queried for the password and when NVBackup tries to retrieve the files, the little log that scrolls up the screen says, "error opening" and the files do not get copied. Are all my old backups useless?

P.S., I also have RescoBackup and backup sets (my backup for my backup) so this isn't a huge problem, but a resolution would be great.

Try setting the encrypt setting to encrypt with "prompt".

Alex, would unbackup (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114093) work? I've never used it, but have wondered if I could use it this way, too.

Try setting the encrypt setting to encrypt with "prompt".

Alex, I tried that, and I did get the password prompt upon trying to restore a single file. But the file itself did not restore. And what's worse is that this setting change would disable encryption on FUTURE backups, so I set it back. But now, I'm unable to get files from my more recent backups (which were working before)! If I turn off the encryption, then turn it back on (using the same password both times), shouldn't I be able to get at the same files?

This program has worked flawlessly in the past, so I'm wondering what's up here...
