View Full Version : Alarm problems; LED turns itself on

I previously set up a thread on these matters, and ultimately returned my first NX70V/U to Sony under warranty. Since the same problems exist on my new one, I am still wondering the causes:

1. After I have reviewed an alarm and turned off my Clie, after a minute or two the LED light turns itself on, for no apparent reason. There is no new alarm going off. This happens a LOT. One person thought it may be an OS 5 glitch. Have others experienced this??

2. When the NX70V/U is closed and an alarm goes off, if I open it up, the screen is black , and the alarm message will not display if I tap the screen. This is different from occasions when the Clie is in the open position: then the display comes on (datebook appearing) as an alarm starts, and when I tap the screen, the alarm information is displayed.

3. When the alarm goes off (starting with the Clie closed), I can open it and press the jog dial, and the alarm sound will stop...but the alarm message does not always appear. Sometimes it will show up, other times not. Any clues as to what may be causing this? Do others experience the same?

4. I use Datebook 5, which is a fabulous program. I am wondering if this may have anything to do with any of the above problems. Do any of you use Datebook 5, and, if so, have you experienced similar difficulties?

Looking forward to input!

I don't use audible alarms.

Dumb question, you have Datebook5 in RAM, not on the stick?

Some have tried to put it on the MS with various methods which don't work, had to ask :).

No, I don't have Datebook 5 on the MS--didn't think you could. Given your info, guess I won't try! Too bad you don't use audible alarms. Are there any other kind?? B

Check and make sure that you have "datebk5 handles alarms" checked

Mine are mostly reminders when I turn on my Clie.

Any apps with alarms have to stay in RAM to run and use the clock :).

I have the exact same issues. I have been using my Clie as an alarm in the morning, and I have noticed these exact things.

I did, in fact, have Datebk handles alarms checked in Datebk5. I'll see if I have the same problems now. Thanks Shrink.

Thanks everyone!

Ok, that fixed the issue of the screen not turning on, and the LED coming on while the unit is off, but now I only get the default alarm beep, and it goes once and stops. Not even enough to get my attention. I had the "AI" alarm chosen for the event...

If I have Datebk5 handle the alarms, I get my custom alarm sounds with all of my options, but if the unit is closed when the alarm goes off, the screen never turns on. If the unit is open, the alarm sound goes off and the screen turns on, but no dialog comes up.

Any solution to this?

Shrink: Yes, I do have *Datebook 5 handles alarms* on. Same problems exist.

Ocell: Sounds as if your Clie behaves as mine does. The solution to getting the alarm screen to show up (if the unit had been open prior to the alarm going off), you simply need to tap the screen, and it should appear.

Regarding numbers of times an alarm goes off, try going to Options menu, then preferences, then Alarms tab. You can choose number of times to play the alarm, how often you want it to play (if you didn't hear it or click *OK* or *snooze* when it went off, and you can also select the default alarms you want for appts, to dos, snooze sounds and remind sound. Some alarms, of course, are louder than others. You might want to have a louder &/or longer default alarm.

I'm unclear what fixed the issue of the screen not turning on, and the LED coming on while the unit is off. What did you do??

Thanks for the dialog, all!

I have the same problems.

To solve the LED issue, make sure you have that feature turned off in Preferences. In DateBk5, go to Options, Preferences, Alarms and make sure the Flash LED is not checked. Do this for each View you have.

I at a loss for helping with the screen being black and having Dat5Bk5 handle the alarms - mine does the same thing and I like the Clie alarm sounds. You might want to ty posting this the the DakeBk Yahoo Groups group.

I'm unclear what you mean by *do this for each View you have.* I must be missing something. How does one do this for different views?

I don't have the *Flash LED* checked...but, I've also been so busy that I don't know if that LED turning on by itself has continued...I'll start paying better attention!!

I just learned that there is a Datebk5 update which will allow one to see the last alarm screen. I haven't tried it yet, but that may solve one of my problems.

Where is the site for DateBk at Yahoo? I'd like to check it out.

Thanks again.

have you solved this problem?
i have post a new thread before i saw this one.

i do have the same problem and i also have datebk5. but the problem persists with or without datebk5 handling alarms.

the worst is that sometimes works and sometims it doesn't.
wen it's closed though it's always black. when i touch it sometimes it shows the alarm form.

this is driving me nuts... i don't know hat else to do.

I resorted to using my cell phone for alarms... :/ I'll play with it some today and see if the new versions of Datebk5 still do it to me.

My Clie was having other problems, and i was able to return my first unit. I still had the same problem that the Clie would have a black screen, until I discovered that if I press the jog button to turn it on, the alarm will show up properly. When the Clie clam is already open, the alarm sounds and it shows up just fine, without the need of pressing the jog button.
I don't think my machine turns itself on randomly any more, EXCEPT when I have just taken a photo, and leave it in the photo mode. Inevitably it will have been on for a while, and maybe frozen & needing a soft reset, the next time I open it. I resolve that problem by opening up the date book BEFORE turning it off after a photo, and that seems to resolve the problem.
I just love this web site!! I'm delighted that I can pass along solutions, even months later. Hope this helps! murrayphd
