I think we need to have a FAQ forum, not an open forum where people post replies, but a closed forum where people can go to get the basic questions answered that we see over and over.

You might think immediately, do a search.  Unfortunately most searches turn up too many threads wich turn into off-topic discussions.  Last night I tried (yet again) to get a firm grasp on eBooks and the formats out there, as well as software that supports them.  I found one thread which another user started that told him to see an existing thread.  After reading through this thread I am more confused than I was before!  In addition to briefly discussing the eBooks and formats many posters let people know how much they liked their favorite reader(s) and the features they have/don't have, as well as where to get the ebooks.

So what I propose is a forum where each thread's subject is a simple question, like "How do I copy MP3's to a memory stick".  I just did a search for "copy mp3 memory stick".  The first thread returned was "Lexar Memory Stick (2x128) and SJ-33 MP3 features (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13947&highlight=copy+mp3+memory+stick)".  The sixth thread was "mp3 to clie, how?? (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12900&highlight=copy+mp3+memory+stick)"  This was a relatively new post.  And it has the same question/answer we see over and over.  Obviously the answer to the question should have been "Go read the manual!", because as we all well know it's in there!  Oh wait, angry mode is kicking back in ;)  When a new user registers we should invite them to read this FAQ area (yet another reason everyone should register!).  When a new helpful question arises that's not in there the mod's of the FAQ forum can talk about adding the question, or appending to an existing question.

*cough* volunteers to mod *cough*

Of course in the beginning this will be a lot of work, since there could easily be 100's of questions.  We might even want to have multiple FAQ forums.

Anyway, I'm just throwing this out there for feedback from casual users, power users and mod's alike.  Post your opinions of this subject and how having a FAQ could help us all, especially the new CLIE owners.  Please don't post ideas for questions though, that will come in a later thread if this idea is put into action :)

Thanks for reading,
K
