Anyone been able to successfully connec the PEGA-KB11 keyboard with the TG50? I even downloaded an update, and I still can't get it to function. SONY is exploring. I'd be grateful for advice from anyone with success.

Man, you must really hate the built in keyboard!

I use it all the time. It didn't work with the original drivers, but version 1.9.8S has been fine.
I wonder whether you have any Desk Accessories or the like that are conflicting?

Yeah. First I installed the update from the Sony site for the keyboard. When I then connected, I got no action. So, I disabled Okey and also did a soft reset. Worked fine thereafter. So, even though you may not think of an app as a "hack", if you've got a Graffiti replacement, or keyboard helper, DA or the like, try taking the TG50 out of the keyboard connector, disabling those apps, soft reset, then reconnect. Oh- note: ZLauncher and McPhling work fine with the KB11.
BTW, to the 2nd poster-- I've made peace with the built-in keyboard. But when it comes to knocking out long documents, or working on work stuff for hours at a time, I work faster on a big keyboard. Adding the KB11 proved even more advantageous than I anticipated-- I no longer carry my notebook PC on out-of-town trips. I'd have never believed that if I didn't experience it first-hand. (I've long used a Blackberry for email, so things are really super-portable in my e-world these days, thanks to the addition of the TG50/KB11.:))

Hello everybody,
I agree with Treorenegade : the built-in keyboard is a good idea, but for long documents a real keyboard makes me feel better (but that's really personal).
BUT I also experience a curious behaviour for this keyboard : I have Mc Phling, Tealscript 3.02 for virtual graffiti, and Okey. And without any particular reason, the keyboard sometimes works and sometimes don't. When it stops working, neither a soft reset nor a disconnection of the unit from the keyboard can fix it : I have to reinstall the driver 198s to succeed ??
Anyone has an idea ?

I have both McPhling and Okey on mine, and don't have that problem at all. It would suggest that Tealscript might be the problem.

Hmmmmm...
Thanks, I'm going to investigate :-)

Folks, I have noticed that the add-on KB11 keyboard CAN be quite sometime-y. One day, I'll pop the TG50 into the KB11 keyboard, and everything runs smooth. Another day, I get the Jack Benny treatment ("Annnnddddd???") But, at least for me, the soft reset deal works like a charm. Kinda like the 3-finger salute for Win purposes. For those who have problems, all I can suggest is that you deactivate hack-like apps one by one, then soft reset. Pain, I know, but worth it to pinpoint which is the culprit, so you'll know in advance in the future.
While I'm here-- a question: has anyone been able to find an app to simulate the command bar swipe??? I've tried several, but the dangblasted doohickies just highlight/select the full screen (of text). Grrrrrrr.....

This keyboard drives me crazy ;-)
I tried all the tricks given around this site, but no way : when I plug my TG 50 into my KB-11, it's recognized as an hotsync request...
I use the latest 1.9.8 version of the driver, have deactivated all hacks and DAs, performed soft reset between each reinstallation of the driver...Hotsync always comes first, and the keys of the KB11 are not functional.
Anyone has a clue ?
Thanks in advance

Did you review each of the screens in the keyboard pref's area? I checked enable driver in GENERAL; haven't assigned anything yet in CMDKEYS (lazy); and checked JogDial: Enable KB Access under LAYOUT.
I also killed NewPen, GraffitiAnywhere (both were never active simultaneously), replacing them with the latest version of TealScript. I also deactivated OKey. I still don't **know** that any of them were causing the problem, but it has been smooth sailing without them. FWIW, still on the TG50 (of the near-hack or true hack quality), all playing kissy-face with the KB11 keyboard =
-- AutoOff
-- CaseToggle
-- Colorize
-- FontBucket
-- Fonts4NX
-- McPhling (Back button = McPhling "back"; voice record = McPhling's popup list of faves)
-- PowerRun
-- TealMaster
-- TealScript ("enable globally" checked; Prefs = allow alternate strokes, write anywhere in screen, maintain entry statistics, alpha/num divider centered; from MENU bar --> Screen Writing Prefs: first 3 all checked-- write anywhere on screen, on only if active text field, off for quick initial taps)
. . . . . That red/bold option killed a whole lotta goofiness!
This may also help---> be aware of what I dub "WannaBe Apps". These are the straight apps, with no hack-like qualities, which tend to have a prc file with "setup" or the like in the name. It looks like a regular prc file, but it's actually an installer, which installs a series of helper files. Some seem to be a variant of Basic, others are associated with AppForge, etc. Some work wonderfully; others have proven to be a gigantic pain in the skleeboop. My biggest gripe is that even when you THINK you've deleted the program, there's bunches of those little helper files still around, some of which seem to cause otherwise inexplicable hassles later. To pinpoint if you have one of these apps on your machine, if you are using a launcher (like ZLauncher, for instance), you'll notice-- many of these guys have no icon. Just a colored circle kinda deal where the icon is expected.
I'll say it again: I don't **know** THE culprit. Your mileage may differ. All I can tell ya is that sitting my TG50 in the KB11 doohickey connector these days invariably yields the desired results, pronto. I decided to do a hard reset to be sure the crappolla was off my machine since my earlier posts here, and I've had no hassles ever since.
Let us know of your progress, OK?

HI TreoRenegade,
I DO appreciate the way you take time to share your experience with people like me. Again, thanks :-)
I chose to hard reset and restore one of my very first backups from my MS (thanks to my new 512 Pro ;-) ). It seems to work !!!
Unfortunately I don't have all the apps I formely had, and I will have to reinstall them one after another with GREAT CAUTION ;-)
I'm very pleased to see that you chose the same grafiti enhancements than I do, ie tealscript (it means it will probably not bring me hassles !). Please tell me if having "only if active text field" selected is so important, because it's my only option different than yours. Did you notice special problems swith this option not selected ?
I will tell you what's going on while reinstalling my most recent apps over this old backup. My main concerni is about Keyquick, that I would like to work properly as it's very helpful...Do you use it ?
Again, thanks for your help :-)
Yours

philj,
Re KeyQuick-- no, I've not yet installed it. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the manual, plus some helpful tips I saved from various posts here. It looks like a gem, but after the *&^%$ I went thru to get the keyboard together, I'm paranoid about "tempting fate".
Re TealScript-- withOUT the textfield-only option checked, I kept encountering little but consistent/irritating glitches. One example: I'd try to click on the scroll bar, or move it up or down with my stylus, and I'd get digital ink instead. (Yes, I know the TG50 has a scroll thing. Short version: I hate it with a passion. Darn thing hurts, literally!) That was the main thing that coerced me into playing around more with the "hidden" pref screens (had no clue they existed via the menu bar til I started experimenting with everything I could stumble onto, given the front and center other/big "pref" button). So, I keep it selected for one reason: I figure if it could cause a problem I could **see**, it was probably causing problems that I could not so easily pinpoint.
As regards the keyboard, dumb Q--- you said "everything is gone away". Just the keyboard action, right? The dumb Q = did you also install the updated driver after the sync? If I recall corrrectly, when I did so, the device automatically did a reset. Same with you??? Assuming yu did reinstall, if it were me, I'd first disable it, then delete it completely. Sync once (good idea, now that you KNOW the other stuff is clean and registered), then re-install the KB11 driver. While you're at it, ya may want to drag and drop a copy of your full Palm directory elsewhere, for safe keeping.
I can only imagine your frustration (personally, I'd be adopting Fred Flinstone-style multi-syllable cuss words by now. Hey-- sometimes, I really need more than the standard 4-syllable nasties) ;) It's probably just one thing/app showing it's, uh, sit-down-area, so we just gotta find da sucka causing grief.
I'll make it a point to check this thread off and on today, to check for your progress. Hang in! Oh-- keep being as detailed as possible. That way, we'll provide a nice troubleshooting roadmap in case some other poor soul gets similarly smacked around by the KB11 add-on.
Hmmm, while I think of it--- all you lucky folks who had no or minimal hassles ---> favor? Could you please list the kinda-or-real hacks you have installed, that play nice with the KB11? TIA!!
Oops, one more thing-- folks at large, if we really need to roll up our sleeves here, do you have a problem with philj and I spreading out long lists of apps per device? If so, I'll just pass on my email address to philj so we can continue this off-line. Thanks again everyone, for your patience, as we muddle thru...

TreoRenegade,
Thanks for your advices ! As you said, "everything is gone" means that the keyboard was unrecognized and gave an hotsync while connecting...
I made a new hard reset, and try something new : I wonder if the trick wouldn't be NOT TO TOUCH the keyboard UI (especially for layout managements). It seems to me that everytime I checked that my language layout (*) was well selected, the next attempt to use the keyboard was unsuccesful ?
May be it's just coincidence, I will tell to you all what's next in this direction.
(*) : as you may have noticed, english is NOT my native language ;-)
PS : For tealscript, I don't think I will learn you something, but if you want to minimize the hassles with "out-of'text entries", try to lower the value for normal taps (that's what I did, with quite good results). I have a good feeling with "recognize strokes on the screen...at least " : 0.04 sec within 2 pixel,"...ans starting " 0.8 sec.
It allows me to navigate in the clie launcher menu just by drawing the first letter of the app I want to use...
Hope this helps,
yours

Hmmm, didn't think of that re language layout. As English is my native language (at least, after my coffee kicks in :)), I never went near it. I'll keep your other suggestion in mind re timing and screen tap recognition, but at the moment, I figure it ain't broke, so I'm gonna leave well enough alone.... although I **do** want to check out this KeyQuick deal.
Glad to hear you're making progress. Gotta get ya tappin' away on the new toy, er, productivity enhancement tool.

I was stumped after reading this forum, and then I disabled the driver and then enabled it.
The darn thing started working.
