This is a known issue; Uncache prevents Blazer from being loaded at boot which disables it as the "default" browser, as a result weblinks in email don't work. I've asked Dmitry (the developer) repeatedly if there's a solution and after two or three weeks and a lot of chasing hi around he told me to add Blazer to the Uncache list of programs t be loaded at boot. Blazer is not an option on a 700P but "web" is, adding web doesn't work and Dmitry knows it. The questions are:

Has anyone found a way around this problem?

Dmitry, are you fixing this or will you continue to ignore your customers?

I would like to use Uncache because it resolves the SD card driver problem, but I want the web links to work.

I've asked Dmitry a number of times if there's a fix or if he's still developing for this product - there has been no useful response. I don't like dogging people or trashing their reputation but there's no excuse for ignoring paying customers.

Not sure why this isn't working for you, I added Web to my TX's UC list and everything works fine.

I am not fixing it because it is not a bug!!!

not launching blazr at reset means it doe snot subscribe itself as default browser, meaning no weblinks
if you want weblinks to work, forget about good dbcache performance and add blazer to uncache list!

well technically you can avoid the performance hit by writing a small app that subscribes blazer as default, but does not launch it itself...this would be a simple 5-6 line app.

now before you start yelling at me about why i haven't written it:

blazer is not unique in this respect, this is by design of the os and i will not write such a stub ap for every application that might be default for some filetype. it would kill the point.

Thank you for your prompt response. I can appreciate you not wanting to write an endless number of add ons but I'm not understanding why you would have to. I haven't noticed any impact on any of the other apps in ROM as a result of Uncache. I can load whatever I want from RAM into the cache at boot. My thinking here is that Blazer/Web and Versamail/MMmail are the only apps that would NEED this type of stub.

Keep in mind I'm using Uncache to solve a different problem than many others, (the SD Card driver load issue) frankly I don't care how it's resolved, if you can write an app that makes the SD problem go away and lets our devices behave the way we want them to then there are a bunch of people who would be interested i.e. would pay for it.

I have Treo and for some reason you can't specify Blazer in Uncache.

Maybe I missed your description, but could you be a little more specific about the problem you are encountering with your card?

There are a number of apps out there both freeware and shareware, that address various problems with cards. For instance you could use

Event Launcher - freeware - to set the behavior on card insert to none
InsertSD - freeware - to either disable any action on insertion of SD card or to specify an action/app to launch
OnLaunch - the same as above, but shareware

The SD card driver in the Treo seems to have some sort of timeout value where if you have too many apps and/or too many apps that register with the the OS to be notified the driver fails to load and your card is invisible. Given the number of times Treo's crash this can be an issue especially if you've got apps that need the SD card (backup, MP3 ringtones, etc). Cardkeeper helps but it's not automatic, you have to start the app, eject the card and then reinsert the card. For more info please see these discussions

Any chance of someone writing a "stub" app that might help?

Actually, this gives me an idea for an app that's more up Alex's alley:
One app that handles subscriptions - basically a file handler app that then passes off the signal to the target app assigned inside the handler app. This would be a workaround for Palm's broken system, and would enable weblinks etc. Would work best written as a PrefPanel similar to the Card Directories panel by Peter Monko

That app would be very useful, especially in combination with UnCache. I didn't see this particular thread till today, but I was using Uncache for the same reason as the original poster on my Centro. For whatever reason, and I'm not sure it's the number of apps anymore as much as which apps, my SD card often does not show up after resets... the only fix I've found is to uninstall whatever recently installed app and do a restore from backup.. sometimes I can reinstall that very same app afterwards and everything is fine.. it's very strange and I cannot duplicate it 100% :(

Uncache did fix that problem for me... but as stated in the other thread.. I lost weblinks and there doesn't appear to be a way to enable them on a Palm Centro (Something is different as the standard fixes do not work).

An app like this would allow me to fix my card, AND retain Weblinks. At the moment.. my card is working *crosses fingers*.. however I'm afraid to install any new software :P

Funny you guys mention that, I started writing an app like that, but stopped because I got a new job which cut my free time down to nothing... Maybe I'll jump back on it when things lighten up.

So to keep things realistic, I'm going to start off with a simple use-case: More granular control over what application is referenced to handle web links. I think reading/changing the handlers is pretty easy, so this shouldn't be too bad.

I think that you could sell this to a lot of people who would like to set Opera as the default browser. I volunteer to test it!!
