When replacing my battery, I had a similar problem, you'll have to carefully remove the back cover. Caution though, it has small star security screws.

I think it is more a case of the battery getting stuck in place over time. The NX series (in my opinion) is the best PDA ever released by any company. The fact you want to replace the battery in a device from the early 2000's speaks for itself.

May be even opening back cover you will not able to resolve the problem beacuse in my NX-80 after opening back cover battery is under main board.
So Whats about NX 70 ?

When I changed the battery on my NX70v about 18 months ago I had to take the back off as described in other threads. This allowed easy access to the battery. The battery had been stuck down with tape, no doubt when the clie had been manufactured. Maybe they did this to avoid any battery rattling or disconnection while in transit (or perhaps it was just to keep the battery in place in the factory, while the unit along with several hundred others waited to have their back panels attached). Suffice to say, with the battery stuck down it could not easily be removed through that little door in the side. After you have changed the battery for the first time, I think any subsequent battery change will be possible through that little side door.

If you really want to see the guts of this clie without taking a hammer and chisel :D to it yourself, then look at this website http://www.pspilot.de/pppnx70/pppnx70.html#T4

Sure enough as soon as one starts to talk about changing batteries you end up having to change one. My NX70v has started to only have a useful life of about 15 minutes when using netfront. Since transmitting with the WL110 uses a lot of current this is a good indication that the battery is on its way out. This week I received a new battery from Santa(the wife), including a set of mini stardrive screw drivers. Of course the supplied screw drivers don't actually fit the screws on the NX70v. So just like last time a used a small flat blade watch makers screw driver to remove the star screws in the back panel. (Remember to also undo the crosshead screw on the battery door before attempting to lift the back panel). It was easy and straightforward to remove the screws and having removed the back panel it was very easy to disconnect the battery’s power lead from the circuit board. With the back panel off you can also clean all the lint, fluff, dust and crap that will have accumulated in the unit over the past couple of years. Replacing the battery in this manner allows you to route the power cable neatly and to fix the battery in place with the strip of black tape that is in the battery compartment.
