apparently there is no more trial period
does anyone have it? If so, if you could answer my questions...
how is the search feature?
If i put in a web link to a youtube page, will it play the video?
would it work for something like stansdad.com?
is it possible to click on a youtube link and have this automatically open up from netfront 3.1, or another downloadable browser? (a good one)
any serious cons I should know?
I wish someone could send this to me so i can try it out before i bought it...

I have 4EX on my Palm TX and like it, but I'm not a heavy user. Your experience will depend in part on your internet connection speed and the device you use it on.
No one would be able to send it to you to try. The license is tied to the device ID. (note: most pda application licenses are tied to hotsync id).
Here are a couple of YouTube videos you should check out. Make sure you've got a couple of bowls of popcorn ready. These were done by Palm Discovery's maceyr! :)

I tried 4EX on my Palm TX and I did not like it for a number of reasons that I don't want to get into yet.
(Yes, I could play youtube videos, though they stuttered somewhat)
But: Kinoma was terrific in processing my refund. I had to fill out one form and fax it to them and next day my account was credited for the full amount.
I would say: buy without fear and if you have a legitimate gripe, you can get your money back in about 24 hours..

I have many problems with it on my TX: Youtube-Playback is stuttering heavily and keeps resetting the device now and then.
And it even resets frome time to time even when I browse the online file lists BEFORE I can open any of the streams.
On every start-up of the programs, it scans the device for new files which takes some seconds evry time. Very annoying.

The program is complete crap! I don't mean to be rude but seriously this is false advertising no wonder it doesn't have a trial period you cant play anykind of file be it from the net or an expansion card for more than 10 seconds without experiencing skipping or shutting the file off..

I agree with the post here, i have Kinoma installed on my TC and it is not worth buying. You really can't watch youtube videos like the way you want to- it streams horrible- even if you have a fast connection. Another issue is when I converted videos to MPEG4- it doesn't recognized them- as it supposed to. Try to get a copy of TCPMP with all the plugins- my video collection has grown since then- good quality. If you want audio player go with the aeroplayer- it has some nice skins- like one that makes your pda look like an ipod- the screen of course. If you want to watch funny videos on your cell or pda (that plays 3g files) online, got to moblr: http://mobile.moblr.com/
I watch streaming videos on my cell.

I have to agree that TCPMP shines brightly when playing videos stored on an SD card. It's an incredible video player and I wouldn't be without it. Here are links to get it along with some harder to find codecs:
TCPMP (tinyurl.com/2kl59v)+AAC (tinyurl.com/fy5p4)+AVC (tinyurl.com/2znpyn)
I purchased Kinoma Player 4EX at a discount since I had previously purchased Kinoma Producer 3. (By the way, there are many free options that are at least as good as Producer, but if you're interested in version 4, there is a free trial period). Kinoma Player 4EX has improved greatly since it was first released. If it's resetting your TX, then I suspect you've got other issues. 4EX is very stable on my device and I'm relatively happy with it when it comes to streaming media. One nice thing is that I can use it to download podcasts directly. I also like the Media Guide -- it's a helpful start to finding online media. I've often used 4EX to stream TV programs from my home PC's TV tuner through www.Orb.com. It's not like watching recorded TV from the SD card using TCPMP, but you can't expect that level of quality in streaming media on such a small device. In any case, I'm glad I have 4EX and give it good marks.
I'm not trying to push anyone toward buying 4EX, but it can do a few things that absolutely no other application is able to do for the TX (e.g., download podcasts, flash video, streaming from XM radio, etc.).

It's crap all right, steer clear from it. It crashes, skips, locks up, it's full of bugs.

I posted a review of this on 24 January 2007 (beginning of this year) on PDA247 - here is the link http://clieuk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=9427&highlight=kinoma
Kinoma 4 EX has been through minor updates during the course of this year, but in my opinion, still is not up to scratch since my review at the beginning of this year. I would prefer to use RescoViewer or AcidImage for viewing images and Coreplayer/TCPMP as video playback. (In fact - I have deleted Kinoma from my T3)

It does crash alot, and obviously has bugs, but it is the only player with a youtube browser and an extensive radio library.

Agreed there is so much more to Kinoma player compared to CorePlayer. Kinoma is worth its weight in gold.

Yeah, I wrote the wireless portion of that review, and I still use Kinoma regularly, so if anyone has any specific questions, just ask.

Just as an FYI, KinomaEX 4 is now on sale for $14.99 at Treocentral Software shop. My personal hang-up with Kinoma in the past was the price seemed a little high. At 1/2 price it's almost worth it for the YouTube integration now

Since this thread is continuing and not going away, I will give my thoughts on why I could not use it and got a refund.
I tried to use Kinoma, latest version 4.4 EX with my TX and using a WIFI connection to a FIOS (Verizon Fiber network)
1. I went through the whole selection of Kinoma media catalog. The only thing that worked for me were CNN feeds (postage stamp size) and some youtube videos, which stuttered. For just about any other video, I got a message: "insufficient bandwidth". I read through the forums, I played around for a few days and still could not make it work.
2. As an audio player, Kinoma is downright terrible. There is no comparison to Ptunes or even TCMP. Why?
a) There is no background playing or buffering. This means that anything you do on the TX will pause/interrupt playback
b) The auto-backlight-off option does not work
c) The keep-alive option does not work. The device shuts off automatically right in the middle of playing
d) playback controls are primitive. Trying changing volume or jumping to another track. Yes, it can be done, but it is just not well thought out. Someone calls it "austere". I call it "poorly developed."
So, is it worth $14.95? Not for this version...
By the way, if you are following the Core Player forum, there will be a free trial version starting with 1.5, but that should be a separate thread..

I have an HDTV tuner (Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950) connected to my Windows XP MCE computer on Minneapolis city-wide WiFi network (USI Wireless). Using www.Orb.com and Kinoma Player 4EX, I can easily stream high-quality, full-screen Windows Media Format (.asx) to my TX. It's great! If my wife is watching some program that doesn't interest me, I simply pull out my TX and find something else. Yes, the video does have to buffer once in a while, but I've NEVER had Kinoma reset my TX (can't remember the last time anything caused my TX to reset other than NVBackup, which is intentional). I have the built-in Kinoma Player on my Treo 755p on Sprint's network, and I'm considering buying a second license in order to get the upgraded features.
Kinoma Player is the best player out there for Palm's for video streaming. No one can name anything better, and so far no one has in this thread.
Kinoma Player is the only player out there for Palm's that can stream XM radio streams.
Kinoma Player is the only player out there for Palm's that can play flash video.
Kinoma Player doesn't hold a candle to TCPMP when it comes to playing recorded video, so if you don't need streaming, stick with the freebie.
Kinoma Player doesn't compare in any way to pTunes for playing music stored on your device, and if you upgrade to stream audio, pTunes is the best.
When streaming video to a small device, you can't have the same expectations as watching video that's stored on the device. There will be some limitations, but Kinoma should never cause a reset. If you're experiencing resets, then there's likely a software conflict which shouldn't be too hard to identify and resolve.

I don't even know how to start with that! If kinoma's working like that for you then my friend your 1 in a million!
