Well, after years and years of neglect, I am returning to the Palm OS. Yes I know, as many are moving away from an almost dead platform, I am returning to it. I'd like to think I am years a head of most everyone else and that I am returning before the mass public comes back to the Palm OS when Linux Palm comes out.

That being said, I just purchased a Treo 680. I was wondering what are some of the "Must Have" programs others have found to be very useful for their Palm based Treos?

Thanks for your input in advance.

Here are some apps I have installed on my 755p which is similar to the 680:

Articulation from Hampton Software for VoIP
AvantGo
Blocks v 1.4 (based on Tetris) www.electronhut.com
Card Export II
CMDway lets you control the Palm OS Commandbar with the 5-way navigator. ($3.99)
FileZ
FreeJongg
GoogleMaps
GrxView (there's a free lite version, too)
kMeteo
Kinoma Player 4EX
McPhling is a great app and works well on my 755p (I don't have it on my TX, yet).
MobiTV (it works, but I think it's a waste of time/money)
MoePaint v 1.1
mundu IM 4.1
MunduRadio
NVBackup
Opera Mini
PalmVNC (I have a static IP at home allowing me to control my PC on the road :))
Plucker
snapCalc5 (This is a DA with its own launcher. I haven't decided to keep it -- I'm trying to decide how to run it since it won't run out of McPhling and I don't really care for its internal options)
SnapCalc5
Sol Free 4.5 (Smallware)
Sudoku (astraware)
TCPMP
TikTok
Vexed
WatchM
WWCalc (Weight Watchers)
Yaps

DAs (Desktop Accessories) (note that DA Launcher worked, but caused problems with On Demand):

Call Lookup DA
CoolDAs
daMemoPad
HRCaptDA (and the HRCaptDM app)
SimpleClockDA (which I no longer use since CoolDAs has a clock)
StopWatch

jigwashere,

when you say you don't like the internals of SnapCalc5, does that mean having it assigned to the command bar, or a sliding gesture i.e. top left to bottom left?

Use it all the time & I like it fine fm my command bar, along w/SnapDates5.

Yup, that's what I mean. I was looking for a way to use SnapCalc5 w/o using the touchscreen. The button assignment options meant replacing some existing functionality. I ended up putting SnapCalc5 on the command line, which I access using FieldPlus. CMDway lets me select something from the command line w/o touching the screen.

By the way, McPhling allows you to set up a custom button to activate it.
I assigned McPhling to the green "talk" button. That button is so underutilized!

My McPhling list is limited to 6 Icons, all of them DAs except for one website (I used SharkLinks to create an application for it). It's very handy. I still have a lot to learn about McPhling, but so far, I can highly recommend it.

I've also installed Hide Applications Panel (http://discussion.treocentral.com/showpost.php?p=1275905&postcount=4) which lets me hide icons. It's great to hide things like My Treo, Quick Tour, AGConnect, anything accessable through McPhling or by hard button, and any crap Sprint installed that I'm too lazy to delete (and would come back w/hard reset).

I recently installed MiniTones to create ringtones out of MP3s, but haven't tried it yet.

I also recently installed a very cool overlay on my 755p, developed by shadowmite at treocentral. test7.prc (http://discussion.treocentral.com/showpost.php?p=1067472&postcount=58) (thread "overlay patches" (http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?p=1067472#post1067472)) eliminates the pop-up that you get when you hang up a call. When I hang up, I want to go immediatly to the next app or another call. This overlay fixes that.

This overlay should work with the 680, but I don't have the 680 so can't test it.

With my 755p, when I ended a phone call, I'd get the call duration pop-up. The pop-up stays on screen, and for a few seconds, prevents me from making another call or opening another application. Losing those few seconds is annoying, and that's about it. This overlay removes this annoyance.
