View Full Version : Upgrading from SJ30 to TG50

I recently purchased a TG50 off ebay and currently own an SJ30. I'll be giving the SJ30 to my wife or brother and want to start hot- syning the TG50 with my system.

So, the questions I have are:

Since I bought the TG50 used, I think I need to do a hard reset to remove the user name, correct? Or is there another way to change the device user name to my name?

I assume that apps I have regisitered under my name will only work on the TG50 if the name on it is exactly the same - correct?

I am using whatever version of Palm Desktop that came with the SJ30. This works normally with TG50?

If, after getting my name into the TG50, would it be safe to assume that a hot-sync would copy all my apps over?

I have a recent MS backup, can I simply restore from there to have my full application set on the new device?

Are there any known issues/problems with running ZLauncher on the TG50? That is my launcher of choice and I am currently running version 2.2 (or close to that).

Are there any known issues/problems with running the freeware Today program? That is the first app that runs when I turn on my PDA.

Any other tips/tricks/"watch outs" in making this move?

Thanks a bunch!

>>yes

>>same as last question...Reinstall ur apps.

Success!

Process went quite smoothly. I uninstalled the prior version of Desktop, but didn't not delete the files therein and then installed the new version to the same path. I did remove the contents of the \backup directory to prevent old apps from being restored to the new device. The advantage of that was my standard databases were restored (address, datebook, etc).

Zlauncher is working fine and I took the opportunity to upgrade to the latest version. The only anamoly I noticed with is that category changes I make there don't seem to be reflected in the default launcher. Ie; New apps I installed are going to the Unfiled category and when I change them in Zlauncher, that change is not reflected in the default launcher.

So far, I'm loving this new PDA, my only gripe is the thumb board is not quite as easy to use as the Tungsten C (for me anyway). Past that, this is a great device!
