Hi all. I have a Tungsten E2 with OS 5. I am using the hard case I got with my purchase and it makes the power button a pain to get at.
So, the first thing I looked at was getting a different launcher (like DBLP), but I decided that is was overkill for what I needed. I am not a power user and I don't do a lot of app switching. I am content with the default launcher and favorites app.
What I am currently looking at is a DA mapped to an app using LinkDA -- then assigning that app to a hardbutton. The 2 that looked most promising, however, only provide half the solution:

ReturnDA: Works fine to power me on, but is not designed to power me off.
PowerDA: Works fine to power me off, but will not power me up.

And just to add an interesting twist, it would be nice if I had one HK for simple power as described above, and another which does a lock/off function -- I am using the built-in security app.

Any ideas appreciated!

There is also:
PowerBtn (www.canuck-software.ca/powerbtn.html)
Audodo (www.payalba.com/index.php?page=utilities)

Also PetitLaunch (pam-ya.com/) is a light app launcher which also launches DAs and Functions like 'Power Off and Lock'

See which you like the best :)

All the best, woz of oz

Don't forget myKbd, which provides that feature for free in the macros section :)

My favorite is Alex Pruss's CenterMenu 1.6 find it here (http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1634)
You can access menu's with the center button plus turn on/off the unit with the same. I don't lock my unit, can't help you there.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. I will have to give some of these a try when I get home today.
About CenterMenu, I have a few questions on how that works. It seems like it just defaults to showing ALL the apps? I don't have a real long list now, but as time goes by, I expect it to grow. Is there any way to restrict what is shown, or in lieu of that a way to order the apps? Also, from the app description, I was not clear how to get the power button function. Does it require one of the aforementioned apps such as PowerBtn be installed as well?

Thanks

I thought CenterMenu was the same as pressing the menu button, not having an app list...?
You use it as a power button by holding it for 2 seconds. Works for turning a TX off and on.

Alex also made a few DAs that allow you to turn off/reset your device.

Oh, and without CenterMenu installed, you can turn on your TX by holding down the center button and clicking OK when the clock comes up.

Aaaaaaah, so that is why it is called CenterMenu :D . I understand now.

Alex also made a few DAs that allow you to turn off/reset your device.

I have tried some DAs (not sure if by Alex) as noted above. I have not found one yet that works to both power on AND off. Let me know if you have any specific DAs in mind.

I admit it, I do forget myKbd and CenterMenu as they are now just a part of my TX to me :)

I got a Refurbished TX about 3 months ago and immediately pressed the Centre Button to turn it on. You can imagine my surprise when the clock popped up. I had not seen that in a long, long time :D
