After over 5 years, I have left the Palm OS world. I have been using Palm OS since my Sony CLIE N760c, and now I am using a Windows Mobile device (the HTC Touch). I will still stick around 1src and try to help out, but I will not buy another Palm OS device.

Hello,
I did notice a rapid post dropoff lately, and feared the worst (well not the worst  ), that maybe you had moved to a different OS. Farewell, and enjoy your new Touch :)

I actually had just gotten a Touch Wednesday, but 1src has been slow in general, so there hasn't been many questions to answer. I also haven't had any myself, since I was using my TH55 less and less.

Seems like people here have been leaving the POS world in droves after the iPhone launch and the POS II postpone into 2009. Good luck to all of you!
As for I, no money to change, and also haven't seen something that's more fit for me then the TH55 either :)
I am looking into the SE w960i touchscreen UIQ Walkman phone (I am anti-Microsoft & anti-iPod), but the unlocked price seems to be way too high. And clearly I can't get the level of customization as on Palm OS.

Hi,
The exodus continues.
Congrats.
Enjoy, I hear the Touch is nice.
You might want to check out Mobiltysite/Aximsite for tips and there is a site, XDA Developers who are into modding apps and roms that you might find interesting.

Well, I can certainly understand the departure.
I gave up on Palm's 'smartphones' in the summer and once my beloved TX kicks the can, that will be it for me and Palm too - unless they have an iPhone-like epiphany in the interim.
I've never had a problem with their basic OS. That is what attracted me to the devices in the first place. But their failure to build desirable, quality hardware and the total collapse of their support software (thank you ACCESS) means there is little keeping me on their devices.
As a slight addendum, I have in the past month bought myself an ASUS eeePC - everything that the Folio was meant to be, but fully stand-alone and a with a real OS (Xandros Linux, albeit hidden) and fully realized software.
While it will not replace a PDA for sheer pocketability, it does successfully replace my notebook computer 'on the road' - something the Folio would never had done.

I'll be kinda leaving too, but not entirely... I just found out yesterday that my super sweet & geeky husband has ordered me a Nokia N810 for Christmas :D:D:D So while I won't be using Palm OS exclusively anymore, I will hopefully still be using some of my favorites on the N810 thanks to Garnet Virtual Machine :D (thanks ALP!!) So while I never thought I'd be leaving Palm - Nokia has just sweetened the pot too much to ignore ;)
I can't wait to get my shiny new "Right Arm".
Congrats on your new purchase DragonGames! It's actually rather ironic that you'll be leaving 1src now just when I'll be backing off too - I found 1src through you from the old iSpin forums.

I have an N800, and while it's not up to replacing my Palm, it's getting close. I just need to find a little more software and I'm gone. I loved my Pams over the years, but there are too many devices available that are more capable. Sadly, Palm no longer offers a device I need or want.

Ohhh, i remember you helped m sometimes with my √Z90 ...
After a while, i bought a QTEK 9000 and now, i just use an iPod touch. As many other people here, I've stopped to use Palm OS, just because it ceased to evolve a loooooong time ago, and because the last major change was a big step BACK : the horrible new memory system, ineficient and unstable.
I miss Sony PDAs, but the best thing i can use now is the iPod touch or the iPhone.
Enjoy your HTC ...
The screen resolution isn't too low for you ?

Actually, the screen looks great. It is very bright (but not as bright as the VZ ;))

Hey Drangonsgames, welcome aboard!
I also happen to have a Touch phone. Been using it for the past 3 months or so.
My experience has been somewhat disappointing due to the lack of a really useful PIM app replacement (Agendus was my choice on POS but on WM is way back on the dev-cycle), the counter-intuitive interface and the almost useless IE browser and Flash player.
Compared to an iPhone, the Touch is like the chinese-made pirate copy that retails for hundreds less, only, it is more expensive than the original (or at least it was to me).
Would love to do a shared report on our different user experiences on this device, interested?

Really seems like everyone's slowly leaving Palm... I've been using a SE P990i for a few months now. It's nice, but, I still really do miss the simplicity of PalmOS. It was very quick to navigate and get things done.
The P990i wasn't endowed with enough RAM to be as powerful as the specs would make it sound. So things can seem quite slow compared to my old UX40.
But I must say that I really do like having my PDA and phone integrated in one. No longer a need to use both pockets in my pants haha.
edit: oh wow, I just realized that it's been over five years since I first registered at ClieSource (now 1src) back in the day. Actually, I may have to resurrect my old SJ20 in the new year, because the place I will be working at for the next four months does not allow any video or camera devices on the premises. And well, the P990i has two cameras...
But it will be interesting to go back to the PalmOS4 days, even if it's only for a few months.

The only thing keeping me from putting my T|E into mothballs is the battery. I have too much time & money (GPS, SD cards, Mapopolis, ZLauncher) invested in my Palm to just pitch it, and my cheapie Motorola C261 phone does all I need it to do- occasional text msg and phone calls. I never use the camera, and rarely use the alarm clock ( I have a watch & a Palm for that!)
As long as I can get a new battery in there to keep my Palm going, I'll keep using it, and ZLauncher makes using it very nice, including the neat sounds.
Somebody would have to come out with something a LOT better than my Tungsten E to get -ME- to switch. IPhone isn't better ( I already have a phone), and a PPC is the 'same' as a Palm (to me) but more sophisticated ( it runs programs, PIM, etc., right? The reason WHY I bought my T|E was that it does the same stuff as a PPC, but is 1/4th the price!
I hope the new Palms ( if any) have better WiFi, better connectivity, more memory, and a bigger battery. I'm undecided about a PalmOS machine with a phone on it. I have no problem carrying a phone & Palm, except I might look like Batman ( from the TV series?) with all the things clipped on my belt. :D
Sorry, IPhone, you suk. :D
thx

Even though I'm very disappointed with Palm and for a new user I'd recommend a Windows Mobile, I'll probably be on of the last ones to leave as I use an enormous amount of Palm OS software that may be hard and expensive to replace.
