I've loved my SJ30 but the battery is giving up. I'm not really technical enough to change the battery, assuming they might still be available. So I now feel the need to find a new one from what seems a confusing range of possibilities. I'd like to stay with Palm OS but would prefer one without all the bells and whistles that come with most of the current, popular models. The SJ30 does all I need it to do but the screen could be a little larger for reading. I don't need it to be a camera or to sing, dance or whistle...just a nice basic, reliable little number that has good battery staying power and isn't too large or heavy.
I would be grateful to hear any comments, advice, observations.... and thank you, in anticipation. :)

The two units that have caught my interest are the TX and the TH55; there seem to be some fairly serious complaints around about the TX and the TH55 is out of production (only available second hand from US Amazon along with 2 supposedly 'new' ones).

I have admittedly been absent from 1src for some time - but (and that had to follow, didn't it?) there used to be a real buzz here about Palm and pda's. I've really loved using my clie and PalmOS but maybe it has had it's day. The reference to development and toasters in another thread is relevant but the toaster does what it says it will do quite well and I'm not hearing about the joys of using a palmOS pda today. Since Sony left the field it seems no one has stepped up to the plate. I do wish someone could show me that that isn't the case. :)

I think a lot of people have swapped to using Treo's or other smart phones.
I've bought a Palm Tx over a year ago after using several Palm devices and I'm very happy with it. I haven't had the need for an other PDA up till now, although memory is slowly filling up and a bit more modern OS would be nice.

I've been looking at the Nokia N810 lately which has a very nice screen and a slide out keyboard, it just misses all the PIM apps. It can now also run Palm OS in an emulator which is still in beta but looks promising. The price is quite high though so I won't be changing soon.

The only complaints I have on the Tx are that the Blazer web browser is a bit slow starting up and I sometimes miss the voice recorder I had in my T3 (this can be changed with a mic mod) but for the rest it's great. I like the design, nice and sleek, it has a good screen and battery life is very good even when using wifi.

I think a lot of people who write in the forums here are into using a lot of 3rd party software which can cause problems. There are a couple of titles that do cause the occasional reset on a Tx. I think there is a list somewhere on the forums. If you mainly use the basic Palm software that comes with the Tx it's a great PDA in my opinion.

Good luck!
