Hi all :) I've got an ~35MB pdf file that I'm trying to view using PalmPDF, the file will load initially, but everytime I attempt to go to another page in the document I get a spontaneous soft reset.

I have UMDH set to ~20MB and clean up for PalmPDF; I set the prefs in PalmPDF for ignore large images.

Any other suggestions for settings or is this a bug and I should contact Metaview or am I just plain not going to be able to view a document this big?

Thanks

I love my mom

I have a 14mb file that PalmPDF crashes when trying to open. And I thought my 14 was big :D

As far as I recall, metaview was working on version 1.6 which wouldn't load (or cache, I cant remember exactly) all pages of a document at startup.

Try Picsel Pro Viewer, if you can get a demo version..

I have a 3.5 MB PDF that crashes PalmPDF, but I don't have UDMH either :( Probable the only way to view somthing like that is to convert it to Plucker, as that doesn't seem to have a doc size limit.

Yeah... I've been trying to find a pdf to html converter for Linux that does a good job, but I'm not having any luck :( I've got some Plucker docs that are 45MB and Plucker handles them no problem. I do have a 11MB pdf that PalmPDF handles OK with UMDH.

Ah well... I'll look for Henk's new version of PalmPDF in the future. In the mean time I'll try Piscel Viewer and see how that works.

Otherwise, thanks for the input everybody. :D

PCQ: How did you make out with the Picsel pro Viewer.
PS I am partial to that program -- I think it has great potential if they tweak it up a little more, I really hope...
PPS I also liked RepliGo, but that is dead!

I tried out Picsel Proviwer... I agree that it has great potetial - but it's lacking the ability to jump to a specific page in the doc & my big doc is ~1000pgs. It also doesn't load most of the images in my pdf. I was however able to at least load the pdf. I've decided to split up the pdf into multiple smaller files that PalmPDF can open.

Thanks again for the help :D

:D :D DMITRY: always the answer.... :D :D

This is somthing that can be fixed with dmitry's SD page file (which he hasnt released)

Unlimited dbcache would solve any problem

I just might have solved my pdf problems in a surprise way... Guess who's super awesome geek husband just bought her a Nokia N810 pda for Christmas? ;) Even if there isn't a port of xpdf to Maemo OS2008 yet - there will be soon I'm sure :D

You? :p This is funny, because I was just having a discussion about the 810 at BH, and about how I'm thinking of maybe "getting" one in the future when my TX finally dies (out of warrenty  ). Please, keep us informed on how you like it!

You can put all your current palm apps in it, thus, you may be able to veiw larger pdf files through palm apps if the emulator has more dbcache :D

again I say, you are so lucky.....

:D yeah! It's good when Geeks marry ;) I'm a lucky girl indeed. He's a professional Linux code-monkey, so when I told him about thinking of getting one someday to replace my TX & how they've released the Garnet Virtual Machine - he said why wait? Merry Christmas to me! :D I'm so excited!!

I will definately keep you guys updated as to how it all goes. I just wish Christmas weren't so far away! :P
