View Full Version : Why does Appshelf blank the screen when a DA starts?

hi,
I thought that I just had to live with that problem, but in this thread (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136335) ppl told me that they donīt have to live with it. So Iīm asking ...
On my device, the screen looks like this whenever I start a DA (with myKbd and MetaDA). It does look like this whenever Appshelf presents me some dialog window as well. Iīd like to have the screen NOT blank, anyone have any ideas?

nvm, by coincidence I found the culprit: DisplayManager (and MaxT+) as well cause this behaviour. DIAMemory works, but that doesnīt deal with the status bar.
pity :(

If im not wrong: the thing is that when the statusbar is down (regardless if using Maxx or whatelse) the running app will try to open the new window, pulling the DIA or the statusbar and thus forcing the screen to refresh leaving that blank screen on your TX.
I wonder if one can write some libraries in order to force certain programs to use the whole thing and not pulling the DIA or the statusbar just for nothing... seems like a work for those super programmers
anyways... :D

That could cause some problems if the DA needs you to type something in it. Though it is possible (I couldn't do it myself :D)

sounds good, but it works as advertised i.e. in DayNotez when statusbar is down. must be an appshelf problem...
Interesting... just tested it out for myself:
With the DIA up, AppShelf works fine.
With the DIA down and the pluginbar active, I get the grey background
With the DIA down and the pluginbar inactive, it works fine.
When I set the pluginbar's priority to low (had it on medium), it works fine.
Seems it's a refresh issue caused by the pluginbar.
My pluginbar was set to low so that I could use Multilauncher, on high it didnt work well.

I was gonna shout that youīre my man, _Em, but setting the plugin barīs priority to "low" (and doing a restart) did not solve the problem. Enabling/disabling "screen effects" and/or "scroll buffer" didnīt do any good, either (didnīt find any other setting that might have to do with screen refresh).
Weīre talking about the status bar, not the DIA, right?
I did a close look at cmsī picture in the linked thread and heīs got the status bar up as well.

as far as ive seen the statusbar will force a refresh everytime any dialog pops up. Then you will have those blank screens not only in Appshelf but in all other programs where you hide the statusbar and a dialog pops up (while SB down).
The libraries should do the trick :D

This is definitely not true i.e. for DayNotez (v.3.something), as you can see. The first shot (pic #1) shows main screen with status bar down, I then called HRCaptDMDA with 5sec, started CacheInfoDA (pic #2) which indeed pulled the status bar up, but after dismissing CacheInfoDA the screen gets updated with status bar down (pic #1). At least there is no blank screen in between:
Are you sure the appshelf you have is the latest?
I have version 1.2 beta4

hmm true, same with RescoExplorer
then some apps are just not aware of the full 320x480 screen i guess...

The only app the produced blank screens was Display Manager. Therefor I uninstalled the app and handle the DIA on my own now.

I thought about that, too, esp. after discovering that MaxT+ doesnīt do any better and DIAMem doesnīt handle the stat bar at all. On the other hand I like the look of appshelf without the stat bar a lot more (and itīs tidious to hide it with a tap everytime). So it looks like I got to make up my mind if Iīd rather have blank screens when starting a DA or appshelf without hidden statbar ...
But itīs not Display Managers fault, as far as I can tell, because in those screenshots further down Displaymanager was active as well. So it seems to be appshelf. Is the developer responsive at all?

You can try to contact him. I got replies with one day. But his english is quite poor so that he uses some translation software. If you keep your sentences simple, he will understand you better.
But the problem with Display Manager and the blank screen does not only appear in Appshelf. DM caused them in various of my apps, such as Agendus, Resco Explorer etc.

well ... I was just gonna give him the link to this thread but I might as well forget about that then. maybe itīs better to just ask him to include a "hide statbar" feature in appshelf itself.
Jug2: What are you using to mess with your statbar? I just use MyKbd, and everything works fine.

I do have the myKbd option enabled, but I have it set/unset by DisplayManager automatically on certain apps (like appshelf, palmary clock, TCPMP).
Ah; so it's definitely an AppShelf/DisplayManager issue. I don't use DM because I had issues with it making my TX unstable.

Just confirmed it is ia DM issue, worked fine without it, but after enabling DM to remove the statusbar, I get the same occurence :(
