So for those of you that don't remember or weren't here at the time:

A couple of weeks back, I bought the DSI hard case from globalsource.com.  I mainly bought it because it seemed to be highly rated on the forums here and there didn't seem to be a better hard case out there.  It even had top flip which was exactly what I was looking for.

So when I got the case, I thought it looked pretty good, but once I installed it, I found the usual problems most of you others have found such as power button being hard to reach, esp. with case open, some of the rough edges, etc. etc.

Main Problem:
However, the main problems I had with mine were that the lid squeaked quite a bit on each open and close.  I also noticed that the case had slighly scratched my SJ30 on top by the memory stick and infared port.  I tried to fix the squeaking by using pliers on the hinges and although it worked, it didn't work too well and the case ended up scratching my Clie big time.

Bottom Line

So I returned the case to globalsource.com asking for a replacement.  And today I received my replacement.  While I haven't had a chance to install it yet, I've noticed two things so far, 1) The plastic case that the DSI Case comes in, is sealed at the top with a piece of round tape.  My old one didn't have that seal.  2) It doesn't squeak as of right now, but there's no clie in it yet.

I will post back when I install it.

Yes well I did install the SJ-30 into the case. It seemed to be hard to get the SJ30 to sit all the way down so I could fasten the clip at the back of the case, but after a couple of tries, I got it.

So far no squeak, but I'm nervous about the case scratching the Clie more than anything else.

Also, I'm not sure if after some use the squeak will start.

Chill and enjoy the case.

i've had some misgivings about my dsi case, but it's definitely growing on me.  i still think it could use a little more refinement, but that's cool... my 30's nice and snug in there.

also, it was 10F today.  yes, 10.  i lost my gloves and i swear that case almost stuck to my hands.

p.s. i hope you like your case... i'm interested in hearing your opinion, since you were willing to give it a 2nd try after such a bummer of a first experience.

I find myself using the DSI case less and less. I've been using my Sena, but recently switched back to the DSI. However, after having "trouble" removing the stylus and worrying about scratching it more, I went back to the Sena again. When removing it from the DSI, I also noticed some small scratches/scuff marks on the side of the Clie. :( Maybe it's a phase, but for now my DSI case has been put away.

So after a little use tonight, there's still no squeak, but I took the SJ30 out of the case to examine it for scratches and it seems like there are some marks on it. I'm not sure if they are from the older case or what. We'll have to see.

sounds like a bummer, my SJ30 is still scratch free. also don't blame all the scratches on the case. remember that the large scratch came after using pliers on the case.

I just got my DSI hard case in the mail a couple days ago and haven't had any problems with squeaking or scratches but it's a pain to take the SJ30 out of the case to hot sync it in the craddle. I'm not sure if this is feasible or how it would affect the protective nature of the hard case, but has anyone tried to modify the back of the hard case so that the PDA can sit in the cradle?

What I had in mind was to cut a horizontal line across the back of the case 2.25" from the bottom. Then attach the bottom half of the back of the case to the top half of the back of the case by a hinge. If you want to place the SJ30 in the cradle without removing it from the case all you have to do is open the front cover as if you were going to use the screen, pull back the bottom half of the back cover, and place it in the cradle. This would leave the lower half of the SJ30 clear to dock in the craddle since there would be no hard case in the way in that area. When done syncing/charging, the case should still be able to snap closed like it normally does.

I filed (had it filed) my case so I could use a 3rd party hot sync cable and it is closes nicer than it did so I don't see why you couldn't make mods yourself.

The case has just started squeaking . I put a little 3 in 1 oil on the hinge and that took care of it. It hasn't scratched my SJ30...yet;) I like the case but it does have an odd feel to it.

I am happy with my DSI Hardcase. I was, at first, dissapointed with the latch (thought it was metal for some reason, really plastic), but now I've come to like the overall feel of the case in general. I like how easily my CLIE pops in and out of the case. There are tiny marks on the bottom on the sides of the hotsync port, and a slight one under the back button, but they rub off with finger. I feel secure with it on my PDA, and it just feels good in my hand.

I do agree, however, that there could be a little more "refinement" in some areas :)
