I noticed that the Palm TX has a way for a vibrate and microphone mod. The vibrate mod seems to have way so you could solder onto the hotsync section making it much easier than soldering onto the pcb spots. Does the microphone mod have a way like this too? or is soldering onto the pcb the only way?

The mic mod can be accessed via the hotsync connector. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athena_Connector

Pin 16 and 17 are ground and mic_in, in that order. So you could just use an old athena connector you have lying around to house a mic, and not worry about opening up your T|X, or do as you said, and just solder onto the hotsync section.

No problem, man. Wiki has some nice info on PalmOS and its hardware.

It can be very tough to solder both cables as the pins are very close. I soldered one cable to pin 17 (mic positive), and the other one to the side of the SD housing as it is connected to ground. It did solder much easier than trying on the battery negative or any other "-". You must have a longer cable though. :)

You're telling me... I can't sync now. Not even bt or lansync :-/

One word of note: if you solder to the external connection, the mic will always be on, even if you connect an external mic. If you solder to the internal circuit, the internal mic will turn off when you plug in an external mic.

This is not what I have experienced. I Installed an internal mic and connected it to the mother board. Then I plugged in an external mic and the two are simply paralleled. You can tell this by inputting sound to the external or internal or both.

Strange; that's exactly where I soldered mine on. Oh well.
