I'm new and I'm looking for a .doc reader. These are the two that I know of. Which one? Or are there better ones out there?

Quickoffice is supposed to support native files (just transfer your file to and from the MS, no conversion), but I can't get that to work.

Make sure you have the Premier (v 7). Older versions don't work

Also, there's an excellent article this week that mentions Docs-To-Go and WordSmith on Writing on Your Palm (http://www.writingonyourpalm.net/)
Hope it helps!

As a doc reader, I think Wordsmith is much better than the other two (and it's free in that use) I think it's even a better word processor, unless you need native MS Office doc support, then QuickOffice Premier shines through (though DataViz claims they will be releasing native format support for MS Office files this summer)

You are all making the assumption that everyone uses MS Office. I use Word Perfect and Doc to Go is the only one that make the claim that it will work with WordPerfect and Quattro Pro. (It does)
If some of these others will work with other processors and spreadsheets, they need to state that.

Free as a simple doc reader and memopad replacement, the full up WordSmith is the only REAL word processor for the Palm OS, supporting TrueType fonts, full formatting, etc. It works with RTF files, so works with any PC word processor that can save to rich text format. It only converts natively in MS Word, but you can add any RTF file manually and WS will keep it synced with the handheld. That means it works fine with Word Perfect, just requiring you to use the desktop app for conversion vice a macro built in to MS Word.

If some of these others will work with other processors and spreadsheets, they need to state that. I didn't think of that . . . I thought that ".doc" indicated Word files (that's what the poster mentioned wanting to be able to read). It's been so long since I've used Word Perfect, I can't even remember what extension it uses ~ does it use ".doc" too?
WordSmith DOES NOT 'do' spreadsheets ~ but he/she didn't ask about that . . .

I never knew that! I'll have to check out DTG again. I have been forced to use M$ products but prefer WP & Qpro. Thanks for the heads up.

BTW, you don't have to use the macro built-in to Word (which would probably be a turn-off for WP users). You can access the same macro by launching the Wordsmith app on the PC, usually found on the Start bar menu.

I think Docs to Go saves in either the word & Excel 6.0 0r 97 format which newer versions of Wordperfect Office CAN open. I get it through a hotsync-and the formats are .doc & xls. But WP and QP will open them (I have WP office 9)

DtG came free and it has always done what I needed it to do. *shrug* Seems a perfect combination for me, and hey! ANYthing that gets me out of the office even 5 minutes more, I will take it!
