Palmgear.com is expanding to Windows Mobile, another sign of slow Palm decline.

Hi,
They are adding Palm apps to PocketGear is the way the story is coming out on PPC sites.
They just are not making as much money as a lot of developers are getting into selling the app on their own site and bypassing Them and handango.
Both PPC and the Palm market for apps is down, sales wise.

That is because they charge such outrageous royalties! 30-50% is outlandish, I only buy from the developer(s) website or MobiHand.

Well that's at least partially their own fault for screwing over the people they're publishing for...

Hi,
I totally agree with the comments above.
Get greedy and then you go out of business.
Looks like a good business model to me.
No runarounds and usually much better customer service with dealing directly through the developer.
The last time I dealt with either of the above was when I got Agendus for $9.95 2 or 3 years back.

I just have one question:
Who would go to something called "Palmgear" to download Windows Mobile software??? There are lots of sites already that do that.
All this will do is dilute their current content, making things harder to find, resulting in slightly fewer sales.
Maybe Trackerdog needs to advertize its website a bit more and become the default location to look for Palm software.

That's just a matter of semantics. They'll change the name to Pocketgear.com which will have both Windows and Palm products. It's part of a larger trend of doing away with Palm-dedicated business. There was once a paper magazine dedicated to Palm that went the same way.

Interestingly, on their "top 100" page, 57 of the products' Download links point to Palmgear. It seems that a lot of people who write freeware use palmgear for hosting, and a lot of other people host their shareware on palmgear, and link from their site to save bandwidth (but still allow registration direct from their site).
