View Full Version : Grafitti 1 and text box problems - solvable ?

hi there,
as far as I know, installing G1 on a TX works (at least it does here). The only flaw is that the TX is gonna crash whenever trying to reply to a forum like this here, because it tries to open a text box with a call that is not available in G1, therefore resulting in a crash. This could either be because the website defaults to filling the text box with a too long text (then the TX will crash in the very moment you click into the text box), or when you exceed the number of chars and the TX will try to open the extra text box. With 1src it seems to be the former, though I donīt know for sure.
Now, I want G1 and be able to post messages i.e. here. Is there any way to accomplish this? Is dmitryīs G1.99 the answer? On palmpowerups it says "Graffiti 2, but without the half-second lag that Garnet 5.4.9 devices have", which is not likely to solve my problems.
Any ideas ?
Thx in advance,
philpalm

I'm flabbergasted at the thought of trying to text to this forum by wifi using a TX. I guess I am too comfortable to post on a regular PC.
Aren't you no longer a baby member? I wonder if we can convert you to being a TH-55 user? Then again the new IPhone members will want you to convert to their side. I think if we expand this thread we will get a concensus of what is the best way to post on a forum using wi-fi.
I guess my vote doesn't count. Even though I have wi-fi on my TH-55, I rather not use the wi-fi function period.

First: Iīm a two-device user.
Second: I am not even considering getting an iphone as long as itīs being "sold" by a monopoly (I believe in markets and competition, and what apple does is neither, and yes, I know itīs not even being sold).
Any comments on the original question?

TealScript and create your own customised G1 set...

well, tx for the tip. it needs training though and costs...
i just deleted the G1 files (writing this with blazer, no crash) and will see what annoys me more - G2 or not being able to post ... unless there is some other solution.

Sorry but I don't know a way around the G1, G2 problem.
I use myKbd Atomic and never touch Grafitti.
If you are at all interested in a free keyboard though you may want to look at ThumbBoardDA (twriter.atspace.com/thumbboardda.html) :)
All my posts here and at BrightHand are by TX/Blazer/WiFi

Scrap the Chunky Computer and move up to the Mobile Generation.
The future is here, now :D

the problem is not so much about G1, itīs that with G1 you donīt even have a chance to use something else since blazer crashes the minute you tap into the "quick reply" text box, (when I first got my TX, changing G2 to G1 was one of my first things to do, together with swearing at it five times a day for lags and crashes - when you come from a T3 it takes a while to realize that the TX indeed might be just as nice .. :) ).
But iīll see if i can bear the hassle of using G2 :)

Not to go OT on you Juggernanut, but a couple questions for Woz.
Woz, how did you quote someone with Blazer? do you use the full site, or the mobile one? And does Brighthand have a mobile site for the forums? Thanks Woz :)

if it weren' t kina tidious, i'd do it by hand, like - i'm trying now - ...
this is a quote,
...maybe on could speed it up using MultiClipDA, no?
Second wozofoz (http://www.1src.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1019136&postcount=6)'s recommendation of myKbd (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=119441).
I've bought both Tealscript and myKbd. myKbd is far better IMO. It vastly reduces screen wear and tear, is as fast as G1 and, for me, is more accurate. Haven't touched Tealscript in, what, a year. More.

I use myKbd too :) The ATOMIK Layout isn't "as fast as Graffiti 1", is is waaaaay faster!!! I don't know what I'd do without it. And for those people who think it'll screw up there ability to type on a computer (QWERTY QWERTZ AZERTY whatever), it wont. Your brain can handle both

I use 1src Mobile site except to edit a post then I use Skweezer (www.skweezer.net/about.aspx) or MobileLeap (mobileleap.net) on the full site.
The manual Codes I use are in this new thread here (www.1src.com/mobile/showthread.php?p=1019333) and I have them in myKbd Macro form and ShortCut5 (www.palmfreeware.mobi/download-shortcut5-v1-7.html) plus some fancy ones premade in TeikeiDA (translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www010.upp.so-net.ne.jp/quni/&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=3&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dpalm%2Bteikei%2Bda%2Bquni%26hl%3Den)
BrightHand: go to the almost bottom left of the page and look for Brighthand- - -
Tap it and select
Brighthand Mobile or Mobile2 :)

thank you all for your answers. what iīve learned is that there seems to be no way to circumvent the crashes when using G1. ok, iīm still on trial time if it bothers me more to use G2 or to get crashes when tapping into the "quick reply" box.
concerning mykbd, many of you know that i am using that, too. what I donīt use is some sort of atomic keyboard, mainly because thereīs no pre-made QWERTZ and I am too lazy to get into making one myself.
wozofozī hint to use a full-featured mobile 1src by placing the appropiate bb-code is nice, though. Iīve already put some commonly used tags into MultiClipDA, maybe Iīll look (once again) into shortcut5 ...
what still stands is the question of what dmitryīs G1.99 really does ... ?

It eliminates the lag in G2 that comes at the end of characters such as T or space. That's why it is called 1.999, it is VERY close to still being G2 and not G1.

does it have the same problems with text fields ?

I like the idea of going back to the original Graffiti (assuming that's what you mean by G1). How do you do that please? I have always thought that although some of the G1 letters weren't quite as intuitive, it was much faster way of writing.
Absolutely typical for people to dumb down in the interests of making things easier to learn only to make it less effective in the long run.

yes, with G1 I mean "Graffiti Version 1", the original one that came with palms before the T5 (roughly, that is). you can read all about it here (http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_story.asp?ID=5830) and thatīs where the needed files are as well, I believe.
Just watch out for the problem I was starting this thread for :)
