Now if we could just get this thing to work with our Clie's. That would be nice. Your NZ-90 as a mobile fone? Yes indeed.

Jen,
If a "hands-on" PDA experience is what you are looking for in a PDA shop, then yes, there are a few. Try Fry's Electronics on either Baseline Rd or Thunderbird Rd (2 locations in Phoenix) for the best selection. Best Buy has a few out on display and so does Office Max. Ultimate Electronics is the only "Sony only" PDA retailer (I think).

I sent an email to Roke Manor the developer inquiring about drivers for the NZ I'll post thier reply when and if I get one. This would make my portable life a lot easier. I did see a European GSM driver for the NZ however I don't believe it will work in the US if anyone try's it here in the US let us all know if it works.

A card like this is allready available and his been for some time now. Called the "AudioVox GSM/GPRS CF-Card"
It only has PPC drivers though.

Big problem is that it feeds of the internal battery. With the limited batterylife of a Clie device I wouldn't want it to become even shorter. Currently I own a Nokia 6310i wich needs a recharge every 9 days.... I can't imagine having a phone with 1 day battery life or shorter....

It will be nice for checking email and stuff, but I guess wifi hotspots are a better alternative.

Agree with Selachii. What I know at this moment is the card can be used for PPC only. A Palm OS version maybe released some times at the end of this year.

Also, if the palm OS version is available, if we want to use this cf with Sony, I guess we still need driver writer such as Eruware to write another driver for the CF.

I think it is very cool if we can use this card with nx/nz, though it seems to me that it will not happen in the near future.

Actually, I have asked question to EruWare about possibilities to develop a driver for this gsm/gprs cf. At that time, I attached the same picture of audiovox cf to EruWare. They replies (29 Apr) that they will if there is a good market for that.

If Eruware did write drivers for this CF card I hope they include support for bluetooth headsets as I can't see how I'd use the NZ as a phone otherwise. Handsfree/speakerphone would not appeal to me.

As another European Clie user I want one and I want one NOW!!!! .
Patience was never a strong point but if Eruware are listening please please write a driver for this type (GSM CF Card) of card.

actually no CF drivers are required. The CF slot is fully functional, 'only' device drivers are required+integration in software etc.

This would be nice...I'd buy one
Sheesh - the Power48 let me leave my HP48GX
at work and it'd be great to leave the phone
too! There would have to be some way to
augment battery life though. Hopefully the next
NX will take care of this (bigger and swappable).
I believe the next processer will be more energy
efficient (the new Intel mobile Xscale or some
such thing)

I have one of these Audiovox cards as I used it in my iPaq 5455. It really works great. I'd sure love to use it in my NZ90.

Not (currently) a European user but I would like to use this in Hong Kong. A couple of things to note though:

1) If it's 'just' a GSM CF then it'll be pretty slow. If it has GPRS or if it has 3G!!! then it would be a lot faster for downloads/transfers
2) As pointed out earlier, this needs to be fully integrated (by the manufacturer) as currently we wouldn't be able to use any voice capabilities. The CLIE has not been designed for this. If it could be done through Bluetooth I'd be v happy.

So, if it's 'just' a GSM CF we would only be able to surf the web - slowly! Don't get me wrong, I won't this but I remember the days when I had a dial-up modem (3M Broadband now - never going back!).

EruWare have put themselves in a difficult position, created something everyone wanted. Now everyone is using it and want more. I hope they can keep up with the demand.

I agree that browsing the web through a GSM would be very very ... very slow, however web browsing is not the only task that could benefit from network access.

I for example would love to be able to check my POP3 email by using card from anywhere in Canada. WiFi hotspots in Canada don't seem to exist yet. (or at least I haven't found one yet)

If this could work it could almost compete with the 'instant' message delivery systems make by Blackberry (RIM)

just my 2c

If work needs to be done by EruWare or a manufacturer then we should be clear on what we need. If the CF driver needs to be adapted to support this GSM card (some poeple don't think so), it might cause people some grief if their development time was spent working on the wrong card.

So, if the effort was going to be done I think we should be looking for a 3G/GPRS CF card. As far as I know the RIM works on GPRS, not simply a GSM card.

I definatly agree, a Phone using an NZ / NX would be great, not for browsing the web but with the NZ in your pocket and an BT headset on. Also this is great, GSM uses cards so there would be very little trubble, often i take my mom's card and use it in a friend's (better) Phone.

This device working with a Clie would need ALOT of devolopment though.

its not 'that' slow with gprs and P800 its almost 56k landline speeds(opera browser!)
