Would there be a problem of data loss if I remove the battery from my NZ90 for a long time? I heard from people with a Palm Zire, that when they don't charge it regularily and forget their charger on a long vacation that they lost their data.

I have to put my NZ90, NR70V and a Zire into storage for a long time but I am afraid that I may loose the installed programs.

I know I could make a backup with BackupBuddy and then restore later but I had issues.

My solutions so far:

-Zire: leave it on the charger.
-UX50: Preferences > PowerSave > Turn off.

But what with the NR70V and NZ90 without backup computer near by ?

No matter what you choose, use MSbackup to backup everything to your memory stick. MSbackup is nice in that it is there even after a hardreset.

Yes, if the battery runs out of power, your data is gone. It takes battery power to keep your data in the RAM. And PalmOS is always on, only goes to sleep when you tell it to turn off. Also, Lithium batteries discharge even if it's not plugged into any device, and if a Lithium battery is kept at 0% for a long time, the chemicals inside gets inert and would no longer hold charges.

If it were I, I would choose to either:
1. Leave it on the charger, or;
2. Remember to plug it in every week or two.

Thank you for the idea with MS Backup - I had almost forgotten about this great application!

I used to run BackupBuddy in autoschedule mode but had issues with the restore function.

The best is - I guess - to leave all just plugged in ;-)
