View Full Version : Experience with Aggression?
Wondering if any of you have tried the new NC-compatible v1.07 of BlitGames' Risk clone, Aggression?
Checking out the Read Me file, it sounds like it's still pretty buggy and with the Cinema version at around 1.25MB (which they say can't be run from a card), that's a big investment from our precious built-in memory.
Firsthand feedback anyone?

I use to have a problem with Aggression but after a 12 step program and some medication I am doing much better...

NC? is that a new clie?
I have been using the beta version of 1.07 on my NX for about a week now and haven't noticed a single bug. Runs perfectly and the cinema mode is incredible. The game is awesome. I like it a lot better than World War. I use powerRUN to move the game and cinema file to MS and it works great. Don't have to invest precious RAM then.
I highly recommend this game. It looks absolutely incredible and plays amazingly well.

You can also put both Part 1 and part2 files in /Palm/Launcher and run the part 2 file.
I put part 1 in /Palm/Launcher and part 2 in my PiDirect directory and it runs fine.
The program itself is quite stable for me. I had a few issues with the Advanced AI and a game with all AI occasionally freezing (a tap on the screen fixes that though) but this latest version clears those up.

Yup, it's worth it if you like this type of game. The developers are very responsive and I expect many new releases with improvements in the near future.
BTW, I also run it using PowerRun which is an indispensible program for the NX, IMO due to the low amount of RAM available.

I too have had very vew problems with the 1.07 on my NX70V and look forward to the additional features available in upcoming releases.
I'm kinda new to the "risk" style game, but I do like this one alot. One question to the seasoned Aggression gamers though, I understand that I get 3 men per turn, and this increases based on the number of territories and continents I have, so it's ok when I'm doing well (ish) I start receiving 8 (or so) men. But every now and then I get "place 43 of 43 men"? The upeer limit is set on the aggression (I guess to 40) so do you receive 10 extra men for each aggression point of what? I don't seem to understand the way it works?
Anyone any help to offer?
Thanks alot.

1 Aggression point is earned every turn that you attack. When you have at least 3 aggression points the game will decide when to give you an aggression bonus from them. You can get the bonus when you have 3, 4, or 5 aggression points but the computer decides at which number to give you the bonus.
I skimmed the manual but I haven't figured out how the game calculates how many armies you get from the aggression bonus. The other thing I read was that the number you get increases every time someone (you or computer) gets an aggression bonus.
I don't think the number of men you get from the aggression bonus has anything to do with the number of countries and continents you own. I have forced an opponent down to one country before, and then all of a sudden it gets 400 men and captures some back
Hmmmm, thanks rhart00.
I've had a similar problem with the seemingly weak army suddenly giving it the large one and opening up a can of wup *** on me!
If the developers are reading this - how about a support forum on your webste like other developers do, where we can ask these questions, and you can reply.

I am actually in frequent contact with the developer and there is a real chance that he might post messages on one of the forums here at Clie Source to keep everyone informed. I can't make promises to him but he seemed keen on the idea when I mentioned it to him yesterday...

he seems like a pretty nice guy. very responsive and helpful
We don't officially condone it, but you CAN run Aggression from a card.
However, occassionally, exiting the game after running from a card can cause a crash, needing a soft reset. It's rare, but it happens. So if you have a paper clip handy, go for it. :) <Don't risk this on an airplane ride...>
Also, we will be implementing dynamic compression on the graphics possibly as soon as version1.09, which will cut the size of the game down.
The details of Aggression points are complex, which is why they are mainly hidden from the player:
Whenever you manage to take over at least one country in a turn, at the end of that turn you will receive an Aggression Point.
If you completely kill off another player, you get his Aggression points immediately.
At the beginning of a turn, if you have 3-5 Aggression points*, you may turn in three of them for more men. If during a turn, you amass 6 or more points (by killing a player) you may turn them in immediately for men.
The amount of men you get for a set of Aggression points goes up every time a person turns in a set. The pattern is 4,6,8,10,12,15,20,25,30,35,40...
If LIMIT AP VALUE is chosen, it caps at 40, else it goes ludicrously high.
* See next post
There is a big "bag" of 44 Aggression Points. The bag contains 14 red points, 14 green points, 14 blue points, and 2 white points (wild).
Each time you are awarded an Aggression point at the end of a turn, one point is selected randomly from the bag. When all 44 are used up, the bag is refilled and shaken strongly.
To turn in 3 points, they must be 3 of the same color, or 3 different colors. If you get a white point it is wild and will take on whatever color lets you turn in cards the fastest.
If you have 5 points, there will always be at least 3 of the same color or 3 or different colors. If you have 3 points including a "wild" white point, there will always be 3 of the same or different.
If you have 6 or more points, you can possibly turn in two consecturive sets and get an enormous amount of men. This will only occur if you kill someone off.
All this complexity merely determines your odds of turning in a set early. But all it really means to you, the player, is that you might get to turn in your APs by your 3rd turn, and at worst once you get 5, you WILL turn them in. And that killing off a player can be the most important strategy of the game. And that if you don't choose LIMIT AP VALUES, than Aggression Points will be all that really matters in the game.
It's important to watch the number of APs the enemies have for this reason. You need to catch when they might become suddenly strong, and catch when it is VITAL that you kill off an enemy and get his points before someone else does.
The algorithms for Aggression Points and Attack Odds are complex in order to give an interesting effect, not to confuse the player.
For example, the complex attack odds algorithm is designed to give maximum deviation to the statistics - this allows for huge surprises and upsets in an attack, even though the average odds are a simple 60/40. Otherwise, you'd always know when you could win a battle.
But the player only needs to know the general ideas, e.g., you have better odds if you attack or defend with more men, and not the details.
Thanks alot to the BLiT staff for the quick informative response.
I appreciate your checking in on the forums and answering our questions.
You'll be receiving moneys from me this very evening as I have to admit, I'm addicted now! Now where's that "BUY" button?
THanks again

Great news, everyone. In case you missed it, release 1.08 is out. If you haven't already registered it, now is the time... Check out the review at Clie Planet for details.

I bought and paid for Aggression last evening, based entirely on the reviews. I won the first few games and was totally disappointed because I enjoy a challenge. Then I read the manual and reverted from Advanced to Medium (Advanced is yet to be introduced) and promptly had my *** kicked many times in a row.
This game is great and to-date the only real game challenge in the marketplace (bejewelled users take note...) and is well worth the memory sacrifice (I use Powerrun).

Which reviews were you referring to? The ones inthis forum or the one on Clie Planet?

You know? I cannot even remember which, although I think it was Cliesource. I am on my desktop and my laptop which I was using last night is at work and my NZ90 which I was not using is charging upstairs. I rarely buy software based on advertisements but am glad I did.

Hubba Bubba with a sweet Mamma to the BliT Boyz n Galz! *** was smelted on my first 2 'free' attempts, and when I threatened to buy the game, I won the last one!
I then went forward and conquered with my credit card, promptly whipped the BEGs & NEUs and MEDs, then whooped the Fixed 12s with Random allocation! what can I say ..... absolutelyiociouslyidious damned good fun! Presumed that the AI in ADV is not built in yet, because that was won in 120 moves ... and now, I will reconquer and re-knight the empire and await for reinforcement from the BliT empire to attempt to take back what I have crushed!
Thanks for the great game play & smooth graphics game guys & to all you not sure peeps- drop your cohooneys, mount up and be counted - or squished!

I've suggested it to blitgames before... but having the clock and battery meter showing (in the landscape NZ90 version) would be much appreciated. I hate not knowing what time it is while I'm playing.
Thanks,

I believe so Blacksadow, there most recent release was February 2004, you can't expect an update every month.

I think that blackshadow is talking about not hearing from blit for a while that's all. I also do not think it is "dead" but they do not communicate with us as well as they did in the past it seems.

I'm sure they are just busy. The game functions very well. If there is to be another update, it is likely to have added game features! Or maybe they are working on something new....
