Newbie question, so please bare with me...

I want to use SmbMate to connect to my local PC with Softick PPP via USB.

What I did on the PC:
I bound another IP (192.168.0.1) to my existing card (which I can ping and I see in IPCONFIG) and I instructed Softick PPP to assign 192.168.0.2 to the Treo. When the Treo connects, I see it's IP inside Softick PPP, and I can browse folders through Resco Explorer's FTP tool (I've set up Serv-U ftp on the box, and all works well). So the firewall is letting everything through (I use ZoneAlarm).

What I did on the Treo:
I set up a new connection in Prefs, and it connects just fine. I can pick up mail, surf the web, etc. Inside SmbMate I set up a new connection, with:
\\my_server_name\C$ (the admin share is there, I checked)
Resource type = disk
IP Address: 192.168.0.1

When I try to connect I get "Connecting to host 192.168.0.1" for a while, and then I get "Failed load \*" and "Operation Timeout"

Now for what I _can_ do:
What I _can_ do is connect to my server 's "real IP". But why can't I connect to the new IP I just added to the same interface?

Thank you VERY much. This has been driving me crazy for several days now. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again... Skar.

I'm not networking guru, but I would think that the problem lies with way that shares are made available. In this case the share is a resource on the proper IP address, not the 192.168.0.1. Just because you and I know that the proper IP and 192.168.0.1 is the same physical computer, there's no reason for the SMB share to know this. At least, I think that's what's happening.
