yes
two ways to do it
either
1. download and install the MSPro patches or
2. format the 256Mb to FAT on your PC

So now it is possible without the patches to use the MSPro without patches so in case of a hard reset I no longer have to carry an extra blue stick for backup?

well it works for me, there was a great tip on this a while back
(I can't remember who, but thanks anyway)
I just formatted the MSPro 256Mb on my PC to FAT and it works like a dream - indeed this tip came out before the patches so it was even better for that

I can play MP3 and video's from it no problem at all
I haven't installed ANY patches or updates

For those who formatted your 256Mb (or larger) MSPro to FAT, can you advise whether it's possible to use the older or current external readers to read/write to the Pro sticks instead of buying a Pro-compatible one?

That'll be an incentive to format to FAT if that's possible...

You still need the pro readers or pro update for the readers even if you format fat.

Also (at leaast on my nx) I've needed to also reinstall the "nx update" in order to see the ms pro "fat" formatted or ms pro update. So bottom line is that I still need an extra ms to carry all updates especialy the nx update if formatted fat an both the pro and ms updates if not formatted fat.

Hope this helps.

I'll stick with my current setup then. That is the one that the MSPro is "supposed" to have. Thanks:)

I installed the Sony updates for my NX60 to see the 256MB Memory Stick Pro card to function. But Why is it recommended to format FAT. Is it not formated by Sony? My stick seems to function just fine without doing the format. Please advise if there is an advantage to the FAT format.

I bought a 256MB Memory Stick Pro from Best Buy the other day. Thanks to the posts here, I did nothing until I downloaded the updates off of Sony's site. Every thing worked as advertised....that was a real shock! I do see a faster response time in the Pro over a regular MS.

The fat format was an option for nx users to all functions with the ms pro weeks before sony released the ms pro update.

I was able to make use of my 512 appr. a month before the ms pro patch came out, but then I installed it because it was the only way to get my cf and ms pro to read at the same time. Otherwise I  would have left it fat formatted without the upgrade.

The major advantage of fat formatted are ms pro upgrade is not necessarry, so you can save some space on the precious internal ram. I think there are other advatages too, just can recall tthem right now.

Hope this helps.
