Does anyone know of a program that'll let me rip my cds straight into MP3 format without having to create them as a WAV file first?

It is very easy to use, supports the header information (so your player or WinAmp can easily show the artist and title data in their windows), and uses FreeDB and CDDB to look up CD track information.
It also integrates exceptionally well with LAME, OGG, and several other top-notch encoders, and deals with problem CDs better than most.
But it is trial-ware. I registered it years ago and have been happy, but if you want a purely free solution you'll need something less capable.

Why must be AudioGrabber? Try AudioCatalyst instead. MusicMatch is a good idea too. CDex is good for converting from CD to .ogg files. OGG Vorbis rocks!!

Let me ask you all this, all of the metioned programs are going to allow me to rip straight from a CD into MP3 format bypassing the file being created as a WAV first? I'm sure the programs you have metioned you have eithered used or are using currently but in the end with just getting into ripping I want the easiest to use program as possible................ we all start someplace right? Once again, Thanks for all of your help and I wish everyone good health :o)

Pretty much all the mentioned programs will do all the steps for you with one button press. They may create a WAV file in the process, but you won't have to.
A few, such as AudioGrabber, can stream directly from the CD to MP3, preventing any WAV writing to disk also. But there's no advantage to that really.

I'll upset a few here, but currently I'm using RealOne. It's free, fast and does what I need it for (making MP3's for my NX70).
Previously used MusicMatch, was is also very good.

Yeah, they all allow you to make an MP3 file directly off of a CD. I've normally used MusicMatch to rip, but recently have downloaded a lot, and then use dbpoweramp to convert to a lower bitrate (MusicMatch cuts the sampling frequency when you go below 96kbps, and Clie's only read 44.1khz sampling.)
