View Full Version : Disable cert check ESU

There seem to be a few people out there with this issue -

I need to log into a PEAP WPA enterprise secured network, but there is no certificate provided for it. On Windows, people are informed to disable certificate checking, but this isn't directly possible on a TX with the ESU. This means that there is no way to currently log on to the network with my TX.

There is an app for Windows mobile that disables cert checking - would it be possible to write something similar for Palm OS to cause it to skip the cert checking step?

Cheers,

Dan.

im not sure if i the solution but, there is a Palm update for those who use enterprise networks. Maybe that could do the trick, but it costs some $... look at the palm website and see if its the solution to your problem?

The ESU (enterprise security update) is the one you're talking about... It's what I'm trying to get to work with this particular network... It's just missing one option and that's making it impossible to connect to this network...

Cheers anyway,

You might want to have a talk with IT about this... doing PEAP without a valid cert kind of defeats the purpose. They haven't reduced the security to 0, but it's now susceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks. Somebody's not doing their job correctly if you have a PEAP network but have to disable cert checks.

Yep - I've asked them but they don't seem to care - it's a standard lazy IT dept response... Although a lot of it is probably due to not wanting to have to deal with people trying to add the necessary certs to their laptops...

Hopefully they have a cert but don't require it, but since they won't respond on that question, I'm trying to find a way to set up their default requirements.

You can go the long way round. If you have a Uni newspaper, ask them (or submit) an article concering the low security on your campus. That usually has the effect of getting the IT dept motivated...
