Hi,
Does it play regular quicktime files?
what video files can I just play on the unit without any conversions...
no matter what type of movie you're going to play on the NX, you'd still have to use the ImageConverter to convert the movies into MoviePlayer "playable" *.MQV format
usually files that are in *.avi or *.mov (quicktime playables) are the most straight forward & plays right after converstion.

I have an aditional question.
How much free ram it needs to play a movie?
I have a 56MB movie and can't play it. I have 2.5MB internal memory left.

I've been able to view Mpeg2 files directly, but these are usually difficult to come by. So, you are still better off using Image Converter.
I've also been able to view a 60MB home movie I made then converted without a problem. The original was from a Sony DV Cam, and it came over as an AVI file. Not sure what's wrong there.
Maybe the lack of space. I currently have 7.4MB of Internal memory free. Try to move any and all applications to your MS, and then get PowerRun to move things liket Netfront, Clie Mail, etc.

Actually you store your movie inside your MS or Compact Flash under /MQ_ROOT/100MQV01 right? In theory, it shouldn't take any RAM but just plays off the MoviePlayer or within the ClieView already stored inside the ROM.
I only have 2.6MB internal memory free but can play all my movies, well, perhaps they're only 17MB in size max, but I don't see the problem why it can play larger movies.
If you're using a CF Card, then it might be the Quality mode of the movie, some cards can only play movies in Standard/Low-Quality mode. Another factor might be the CF Card brand that's affecting your playback, because certain movies just don't seem to work on a certain brand of card whereas it can play flawlessly on a different brand of card.
You can try to store your movie clip on the MS then try to playback on that, if that doesn't work then something else is causing the problem. Because movies should always run alright off the MS as long as it's under 127MB

why 127?
127MB is the max limit the MoviePlayer can read at one time. It's just set by Sony, it was posted on the Sony Official Homepage, even while using MS Pro256, Movie size can only be read when they're under 128MB, so that's why 127MB

so strange... why set a limit?
its streaming media... maybe they ment the then available MS media 128.... and not a soft limit. has anyone confirmed that bigger movie files do nit work?....

you don't need to convert mpg 1 or mpg 4 movies...you can run'em straight from MS, put them in \mssony\moml001\ and rename to mov0001.mpg etc...
I tried 1150kbps mpgs, some screentearing occurd during fast motion.
I still recommend image convertor though

I don't think it works on Clies yet. I tried it, and the MP3's I tried were listed in the app, but they wouldn't play. I didn't try the MPEG playback.

I encodes the animatrix "Last flight of the Ostiris" in mpeg 1 and put on the memory stick through image converter. plays fine, but one thing that puzzles me is that the clie plays mpeg-4, but divx is not supported. divx is mpeg-4, and makes me wonder on what they want you to use to encode your videos. I have been using a usb 2.0 card reader to put mp3 and small movie clips on the MS. I let the MS export make the files and I put the files in those folders afterwords with the card reader. Much faster than the cradle.

The origanal Divx was a hacked version of Microsofts MPEG-4 codec, but Divx isn't actually MPEG-4. It's very similar, but not the same.
