why wouldn't you just connect to the internet via your pc at that point if you're already sitting right in front of it?

i want to do it, too. for example to have the websites on the PDA and look them up from the browser cache of the PDA?
I already tried it using a proxy server and connecting both PC and Clié via infrared network connection, but it seems to me that you could have to simulate an IR modem on your PC by which you could dial in with your PDA...
ideas?

Absolutely pointless IMHO

This is like me trying to check my email and post on PIC with AvantGo, only with IR.
It's pointless but COOL!
So your PC has an IR port right? That's where you start...

Yeah, erm... instead of writing pointless replies, perhaps it's better to try to answer people's questions. Even if it's pointless, the person might want to learn something new, and might be able to implement it in a not such a pointless way.
For example, I'm a member of the board of the European Week Eindhoven in The Netherlands, which is the largest student conference of its kind. We have had our conference one month ago, but still we hold regular meetings. During these (enormously boring meetings) I love to play with my Clie, often faking taking notes while playing, let's say, scummVM.
Most of the times, I have my laptop in front of me, with the lid closed because it's considered rude to check your mail or chat with MSN during the meeting, of course. Now, if I can manage to connect to internet with my Clie IR port to my laptop IR port, I can even surf the net.
So, here's a valid reason why someone would like to use the IR port in such a way. Now, if someone would be able to provide an answer, I'm curious too!

Yes! You can connect your SJ-33 to the internet with your computer through an IR or serial port (but not usb (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14275)). There are a number of online primers (http://www.smittyware.com/contrib/palm_ir_pc.php) for making a "direct cable" network connection with IR between your handheld and your pc.
Essentially you need to establish a network connection through a null modem, and allow internet connection sharing on your pc. Don't forget that you also must have a browser intalled on your handheld. Follow the links for additional information.
