In the news, Steve Jobs announced the issuing of a Software development kit (SDK) to be released in February:

Won't this release make people happy?

Ohhhh yeah :) I am happy with the iTouch as is and this will make it even better. Too bad for Palm with their OS a year away and Apple releasing this just around the corner.

Of all the people, this would NOT make the folks at Palm be happy...LOL
Wake up Palm! You don't have 18 months to "incubate" Palm OS II, you've only got till next February! (That is, not taking Nokia's S60 touch interface into account, which makes Palm look even worse...)
I have to say that this is probably the end of the line for me and Palm. The Touch will, most likely, become a pretty good pda-like tool and that would be good enough for me. I will probably buy one at the weekend with a view to phasing out my old, tired (and tiresome) lifedrive in the new year..

Indeed. Now that there is also the nokia N810 in the market to cover non-converged PDA market, the competition for palm is getting more fierce...

Only thing its missing now is a hard keyboard. Does it have a camera?
LupeValenz
10-19-2007, 03:14 PM
The touch does not have a camera. :(
ok, I did it! It is a very cool device. Still playing with it but so far so good. Few things stop it from real PDA'dom (no BT and therefore no 'anywhere' web/email access, alarms too quiet to be useful w/o headphones on, no todo sync..sure there are more). However, the execution is just bewilderingly good....Ill report back in due course when ive stopped drooling on it..

It was a great device when it came out, its even greater device with the Hacks, you can go to youtube and look at ipodtouchmaster video to make your touch a REAL iPhone with out the phone part ;) The touch is my new PDA now ^_^/

SoS, no your alarm is all right, the iPod touch alarm is very quiet :( I too wish it was louder. How are you doing with the virtual keyboard? I have to admit I am very much amazed with this feature. When I first played with it I was a little slow because I was trying to make sure I spell everything correctly but then I decided to do a speed type and see how it comes out, I am amazed at how good it fixes your mistakes when you type fast. I type faster one finger on the ipod than i do two thumbs on the treo. (doesn't hurt my fingers as well :)

ipodtouchmaster on youtube will be your friend :)
First you have to jailbreak your touch (he has a video to do this) and then install the iPhone apps on your touch which is here.
Youtube-Iphone apps on touch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YciPeAPPrmE)
I'm not good at hacking but I followed his steps on the videos and all went well. This is of course if your running a PC and not a Mac.
Free your iPod (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UG7mA0bztc8) That right there is how to free your ipod, there is a new version up he made but I haven't tried that, but this video I went through and it worked fine :).
He has more videos on how to customize your iPod and here is what mine is like right now ^_^

Dock Screenshots (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=4326549&postcount=1)
Oh when you have it installed, there will be a tiny sunburst icon in the lower right hand corner, just tap and drag into center and it will bring up list of icons and at the top of the icon listing will be the screenshot icon, just let go to take a screenshot. (the sunburst is meant to open apps within apps without going to home screen) :)

Thanks. That it is, now when a decent Word processor and spreadsheet program comes out I'll be all set :)
Nice screenshot there, LV. I'm slowly getting the hang of using my iPhone and not dare to mess around with my screen, yet.
One app that I would like to add first thing is apps that similar to YAPS or Splash ID. Please let us know if it is out there.

I know what you mean. It took me about couple of weeks to take the plunge to hack my touch. As for Splashid like app on the iPhone/touch, there is a very basic password/credit card keeper. Its called lockbox and I will post some screenshot about the app. I love how the keyboard changes depending on the field your typing in. Like if you are typing the website address, it will give you the Internet shot cut keys. Very fluid how it works.
EDIT: Actually found a website that shows about Lockbox, so here ya go.
Lockbox (http://code.google.com/p/iphonelockbox/)
I actually like it so far, just wish there was more customization. Like I want to have a registeration field for apps but there is work arounds like I just go into other, put in Description field the name of the app and in the notes field is the reg code. I just hope it keeps on growing. :)

SplashID is coming for the iPhone, first via a web app and later, when the time comes, as a stand alone app. This is according to the developer, but unfortunately, I can't remember where I read it. A quick visit to the Splashdata web site didn't turn up anything for me.
Thanks. I launch iBrickr.exe and it says that i need to downgrade iPhone firmware from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 first. Is that what you did?

Hiya there. That is good news to hear that will be coming to the iPhone. I hope it comes out pretty fast.
Hmm, sorry DanT but afraid not. It seems there is diffrent ways to jailbreak the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Actually I just looked around and it seems this is an easy way, if it works that is but people are saying it is very easy. That downgrade sound like it could be a headache >.< Here you go.

Ahh I think I found the sight you might have read that from. Its on Splashdata own page wanting request from people to bring their SplashID to the Iphone. Defiantly giving them a request as well for it.

Instead of EditGrid you could also use GoogleDocs (if you are connected 24/7) which includes the other standard office apps.

Hey hey, glad to hear it works DanT. Didn't take you long to break it, did it :D. Just have to be careful with updates from apple now, but like I heard from a podcaster, he was asked if he updated to the new firmware and he said "No...because I like it as it is right now" I am feeling the same way right now as well :D
Yea, February is just way too long to wait. :D
Now the 3 remaining spaces are filled up with the Installer, Lockbox and ToDoList (http://include7.ch/index.php?page=iphone_mobiletodo). ;)
Please keep us posted with more cool apps! :)

glad to hear everthing is working fine for you. That I will. Majority of the apps on the installer is not that good but at least it is there. I would use ebook but they need a simpler way of putting books into the device.
I don't need ebook just, yet. That would make app # 21. What is a good launcher to take care of that, or would that 21st app just go to bottom automatically where you can just scroll over?
LupeValenz
11-05-2007, 06:00 AM
Heya DanT, yeah I just tested that out and when you have more apps than that screen can handle, it will set the apps in another 'page'. Like how you scroll through the weather pages for other cities, the same will happen for the icons. Oh and the iPhone sudoku is very basic looking and boring. I guess I'm just spoiled by RescoSudoku with the Aqua skin.
Thanks for the tips. I may start adding more apps then. BTW, I receive duplicate email notices from your quick replies. Did you use iPod Touch for those?

Always glad to help ^_^.
Hmm, well I only used iPod touch today for post #35, other was quick replies on a computer. That be weird to get duplicate emails just for replying from the iPod.
I'm going camping this weekend to be sure I'll have enough juice on my iPhone while I'm in the woods, I made a home-made battery extender for it, as you see below. ;)
Disclaimer: If you want to copucat it, do it at your own risk. Make sure your total voltage for 4 AA batteries, hooked up in series, are not exceeding 5V. I would use 4 AA NiMH batteries with 1.2V each x 4 = 4.8V.

Heya, here is a good application I believe is very handy, especially when loading with more apps. You can keep it organized with iOrder. It runs on the PC and is very easy to have your applications organized. You can even have up to 5 icons on your dock. The applications will be organized form left to right. I am little picky with how apps are organized on the screen so the top half is my internet apps and the bottom (minuse the dock) is more of my office half. The 2nd page is my settings :)
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Dark_Angelz/iTouchorganized01.jpghttp://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Dark_Angelz/iTouchorganized02.jpg
Here is the website for the application.
iOrder (http://iorderapp.googlepages.com/)
Thanks for the tips and sharing your screenshots. I'll check out iOrder later. I can put icons that I less often use in page 2.
Apollo and Contacts may be my next addition. To go to Contacts, currently I have to do 2 taps (Phone & Contacts).
It would be nice if there is a special Wi-Fi icon that I can toggle it ON/OFF in one tap, instead of 3 taps (Settings, Wi-Fi, ON/OFF). Also with Bluetooth, it will be even better, from 4 taps (Settings, General, Bluetooth, ON/OFF) to one tap. If I have that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons, then I can put the Settings to page 2 of the launcher screen.
BTW, I'm still receiving 2 email notices from your reply.

Yeah but I read that it doesn't work for iPod touch yet. I wonder if thats the app that you have to use to seperate what apps you want on one screen. I would like to have one page be a web page, another one for office instead of having a screen full of icons >.<

11-06-2007, 09:13 AM
I'm pretty sure you can do that. I've got one page with my regular apps and one page with my settings/customization/utility apps. It works pretty well. You can even change sound and icon settings with the Customize app.
Customize is also a good app to re-order the icons. You can dl it straight from installer.
Thanks for the tip, threengs. This works for me just fine. I only have one icon in page 2, so there goes the iTunes store icon. LOL ;)

Well here is something that will help make your iPhone/touch look more like Leopard. It helps bring Stack to the mobile device.
Mobile Stack (http://http://code.google.com/p/mobilestack/).
Looks very cool but I'll stick with the icons launcher for now, until stacks can let us have more than 1 stacks and let us configure it, I would like to make stacks for office applications, entertaintment, web, etc. Then I might try it out.
As for those who are curious about hacking the iphone/touch. Don't download the new update as there is lot of rumors that the new update will most likely fix the Tiff exploit and thus cut off the hacking ability for your new apple device.

Dang!
While I was in my laptop in LAX, the iTune update popped up and I idiotically accepted the update. iTunes then synchronized my iPhone and guess what? All my 3rd party apps got wiped out! The Lockbox, ToDoList, Installer, and Customize were GONE! Now I'm like a fish without water.
Help! How would I recover them from iTune? Is it even possible?
The iPhone works in Taipei airport though. I was afraid it wouldn't work overseas, like some people told me.

Wow, sorry to hear the loss of 3rd party apps on the phone. Well, at least it sounds like the update didn't brick it. :D Well it seems so far with 1.1.2 being a bit new there is some sloppy work with unlocking it on the iPhone. I would wait a bit until more people get a better version as it seems the people who try this gets it unlocked and others don't so its up in the air it seems.
Here is Jailbreak 1.1.2 iPhone guide (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=388281). It also tells you how to downgrade to 1.1.1 if you don't want 1.1.2 but from what I hear, 1.1.2 should help make the iPhone feel faster? You need the 1.1.1 restore file which is here (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-3883.20070927.In76t/iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw). Good luck! ^o^/

Hiya there ^_^/ I was curious about updating the firmware. When you did that, did it erase all your contact/calendar entries? I am wondering if I should upgrade to 1.1.2 because it seems it makes the device feel faster and it fixes the alarm bug. If it erases my calendar/contact entries I think I'll just skip it (don't have outlook to sync with, too expensive grr)
Just got back from 2 weeks in Indonesia. In case you're all wondering about international serviceability of iPhone, it works just fine in Taipei, Jakarta, and Bali, including calls and SMS (local or otherwise).
Thanks for the 1.1.2 upgrade tips and link. My problem was just with the unapproved 3rd party apps, like Lockbox and ToDoList. My address book, Notes, and Calendar are fine.

Good tips. After reading the Jailbreak 1.1.2 iPhone guide, I think I'll wait until the better version is out. I don't want to downgrade to 1.1.1, install the unofficial 3rd party apps, upgrade it again to 1.1.2, and find later that those apps will be wiped out again when the official ones with later version are out. If the official version would be out in 2/08, I'll wait. In the meantime, I'll stick with my TH55 version of Lockbox and ToDoList.
I can't tell if 1.1.2 felt faster or not. I would stick with 1.1.1 if I were you or at least back up your ToDoList, Lockbox, and any other 3rd party app database, before upgrading to 1.1.2. I don't know how to do it with iPhone or iTunes, so I keep duplicate of such database in my TH55.

Thanks for the tips as well. I don't see the iPod having a backup system like the iPhone so sadly I can't do that. :(. Yeah, I keep forgetting that Feburary is around the corner and there will be an update that will wipe my iPod clean so I guess I'll keep it as is and wait to see what the future holds for the phone/touch. I like to see more games like Freecell, a cleander looking sudoku and Mahjong be nice, make the ipod a relaxing device :D
