I'm trying to install the Clie Memory Stick Export application on my PC, which has Windows XP installed.
The installation completes, all the way through to the point where it prompts to allow the PC to reboot. As soon as I click OK, I get an error: "Fail to install the Clie memory stick driver".
I checked Sony's website, but didn't find an updated driver. Anyone know of a solution for this? It seems to be preventing me from transferring images from the Clie to the PC (device not found).
Thanks!

Do you have any previous palm software installed? Is your Clie overclocked to speed up the processor? Do you have a USB port on your PC and it's connected directly(not through a hub). Normally running through a hub is not a problem, but it's one thing you can quickly eliminate. In the past, I have had Iomega's Active Sync software for my Zip-250 USB external drive prevent installation of the USB driver, even though I could HotSync just fine.
Question, are you able to HotSync?
My problem basically was the same as yours, with it failing at the last stage. Interesting to note though, that MS Import worked, even though it said the driver wasn't installed.
Yes, you have to have MS Export installed to use MS Import on the Clie. Normally, I never use MS Export, just MS Import on the Clie in conjunction with Windows Explorer and it comes up with it's own drive letter like 'E'.
One other avenue would be to uninstall everything and start over by installing the Palm Desktop software first, BEFORE plugging in the Clie.
Hope this helps some

Hi, thanks for the suggestions. Nothing was installed previously, not overclocked, no USB hub. I can hotsync with no problem.
I did also try the re-install of the Palm desktop. Same result.
You mention the drive letter in Explorer. Should I see that automatically, or do I need to install something else?
As an alternative, if I get a memory stick reader, will I be able to transfer the image files that way? I don't know what format the images are in yet - something the PC will understand?
Thanks again,

I experienced the same problem on my XP laptop, but after a reboot, the export function worked anyway.. flawlessly, if I might add.
You'll need to launch MS IMPORT on your CLIE, then after 2 secs, a 'removable drive' letter should appear on your PC. You'll be able to access the memory stick then. Try it.

You would see the new drive letter in Windows Explorer only when you tapped on the MS Import Icon on the Clie. Normally it takes about a half of a minute and you'll hear confirmation tones everywhere.
You shouldn't have to get a memory stick reader. I thought for sure that Sony had an update for WinXP's USB issues, but when I looked, I didn't see it. I need to think some more, but maybe in the meantime, some other kind soul will have an answer.

I had a similar problem with my win2k laptop. It was related to MS SCSI driver not installing properly.
It should install the memory stick driver automatically with MS Import.... but somtimes doesn't. Try exploring your software CD and manually installing the MS SCSI driver. MS SCSI has nothing to do with SCSI... its the USB memory stick device driver or Sony PEG memory device driver.
If that fails send me a message with you email address and I can email you the latest driver I have.

There we go. Thanks guys!! Using Explorer for this will likely be more convenient anyway.
