well, I am just hypothesizing here, but I called last week to get a quote on the repair of my NR70V's screen and was told $150. I called back this week to actually have it done and was told the price for this repair has gone down to $100.

I am not sure this really means anything at all but it could mean that Sony is adjusting the price of screen repairs to reflect a new addition to the line of screens they repair, such as the 18bit 320x480 screen recently released (see Brighthand).

If this is the case, I think it likely that the forthcoming NX replacement will use this 18bit screen - :D

Hmmm... I don't see how the intro of a new screen would have any impact on the cost of their inventory for repairing existing PDAs.

Just depreciation most probably

SONY announced a 18 bit 320x480 screen end of last year which would go into production this year.

Yea.. that's what I'm talking about JackAxe. It is supposedly 2/3's the thickness of the current screen (I think I remember that right) and uses less battery power. Seems like a perfect candidate for a Hires+ T-series.

sorry, 18bits then. I can't see depreciation affecting a repair item eddy, seems to me they would do it to b/c their top o the line screen costs $150 to repair and they now have a new top o the line screen - i mean, being real here they make these things for less than $10 a pop I imagine and I know it doesnt take a tech more than 15 minutes to do the job and send it on back.

Maybe there is another reason, but I am guessing something they are releasing this quarter will have that new screen. Maybe a long awaited T series replacement, maybe an NX replacement, maybe both, who knows.

then again, I could just be overly excited

Perhaps they have quit production of the old screens and are trying to move them out. I don't understand why they would want to do this.. as having the old screens would let them repair more units...

.. maybe you just spoke to someone else at Sony repairs who just quotes a figure that popped into their head...........

........ the NX has dropped in price by over £100 in the UK over that last 2 months... as the componants become more available this happens... this also is true of spares..... ..
