There are quite a few threads simliar to this one. 130 vs. 22, 20 vs. 30, etc. It's just such a hard decision to make. I am going to college this fall and I am looking to get a PDA. I think i've narrowed it down to the 20 or the 22. I've read a few things about the ghosting problems, and the readability problems, and all that. The price difference, about $50 USD, doesnt seem like much, but it is. Here is what I want: I really dont think i'll be using it for many games, maybe a few like solitaire or something. I want it for the basics like todo and calendar and I found this program that looks pretty good to manage class assignments. What I really want to know is: how bad is the ghosting really. is it very distracting? and how is the color difference. i really dont think i need the color but it is a nice feature.

Go for the color. If you go with the monochrome screen I bet you will wish you got the color. But, I don't know the difference in battery life in these models.

Indeed, give your eyes a break and go for colour. The fact is, for example, if you are going to read an eBook late at night in your bed, you can easily adjust the brightness to diminish the flashlight-effect, which you will get with the SJ20.

Also, the main advantage of colour is information seperation. Even with ancient WordPerfect, colours were used to indicate whether something is italic, bold etc. without any multimedia intentions!

$50 is $50. I didn't need color. I bought a SJ20. I have NEVER regretted it.

BTW, Ghosting is a non-issue from my perspective. I would have never noticed it if folks hadn't made such a big deal over it. I play Euchre, Solitare, etc. with no problems. Game Boy-like games might get annoying.

I would recommend getting the SJ22 if you can afford the extra $50. Even if you're not playing games, I believe that it makes simple tasks easier on the eyes. I don't have a color device, but wish that I did. When I was looking into buying a PDA, I didn't think that I wanted color that much. However, now I wish that I got a colour model.

Although, if you're going to use your PDA soley as a calander/todo, etc, (and for sure nothing else in the future) then black and white may be fine. However, as Gazpacho posted earlier, color creates distinction between screen objects.

I'm inclined to agree w/ palmgeek. I could think of all kinds of things to do with an extra $50, and the ghosting problem really is a non-issue. I've been able to play some high speed, high res games (like master thief) and noticed no adverse effects on playablity at all.....:D

I got an SJ20 when they first came out because Sony didn't import the SJ30 colour model into New Zealand. I've since had a look at the SJ22 and would trade in for the colour any day. Not for games but for normal daily apps like datebook and shadowplan.
Best if you can have a look at both side by side. Have a good look at the screen refresh, the SJ20 is definately sluggish in normal operation.

Good luck.
