I use DateBk5 as my appointment manager, but I've been having a problem with the regular datebook interfering. Every time an alarm goes off, both the datebk5 and regular datebook alarm screens come up, which keeps the alarm from sounding somehow. Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone know of a solution short of deleting the built-in datebook with JackSprat? Thanks.

DO NOT delete built in date book or you will have NO date book. The solution is to open Datebk 5 preferences and on the alarms page select Datebk 5 handles alarms.

it's already set to datebk5 handling alarms. I know that deleting the built-in one will fix it, because I did that on my old IIIc (as a matter of fact I replaced almost all of the built-ins)

Does this occur all the time.
I believe the manual says, somewhere, that you need to run datebk5 after a hotsync otherwise the built-in datebook will try and take over.

I had this same problem on my T615: both alarms were going off, even when the option for DateBk5 to handle all alarms was selected in preferences.
The solution was another small app, provided by Pimlico--I believe it was called DbAlarm. I can't rememeber right now whether it's bundled in a zip file within the DateBk5 zip, or to be found somewhere on the Pimlico website, but I know that there is information somewhere on the Pimlico website about this.
A note: this solved the problem for me, but I found the installation instructions confusing. The app, if you find it, needs to be installed and left on your Palm to work.

Scroll down the page to find:
dbAlarm. dbAlarm is a small applet that completely silences alarms from the built-in datebook application (and also DateBook+ on Handspring handhelds).
There is an IMPORTANT caveat in using this program: in order to work, dbAlarm must have the same CreatorID as the built-in datebook application which in turn has the same CreatorID as the datebook database that has your calendar information. If you blindly delete this program from the main application screen in the Palm OS, the PALM OS will remove ALL files with the same creator ID - and that INCLUDES your datebook database.
To be safe, you must either delete it using a third party utility program (a freeware file utility is included in the dbAlarm.zip archive) or uncheck the DateBk5 handles alarms in the Alarms tab of the main preference panel in DateBk5, which will change the creator ID to a safe value at which point you can delete it normally. For this reason, you have to download dbAlarm separately from this URL:

Have you thought about using SyncBack? It's a nifty free program that, once enabled, automagically opens an app of your choosing (DateBk5) after hotsync. That usually takes care of the problem. :D

I got dbAlarm. Haven't hotsynced it yet, so I'll tell you how it works. Just curious... how does running datebk5 after a hotsync fix this problem?
Thanks for your help everyone.
P.S. YellowRose is right. You can delete datebook without losing the datebook database.

I don't remember how it works. Something about reinitializing datebk5 to handle alarms after a hotsync. I remember reading it in the manual or FAQs page on the website somewhere.
