Is the sync cable that comes with the PEG-SL10 just a standard USB A/mini-B cable?
I have seen USB cables with A / mini-B connectors and have always wondered if they would work, but have been scared I might wreck my clie if I tried them. They are quite a bit cheaper than the hotsync/charge cables that I've seen.
One other twist to this is that the cables I've seen with the A/mini-B connectors have always been labeled as USB 2.0. Would this affect the compatibility?

i previously posted a similar question. i'm pretty sure that it's just a regular cable as you suggested; maybe it has more protection or something- i don't know. i thought that the sony supplied cable only worked for hotsync but not for power (via the USB port- of course you can't charge the SL10's batteries though!). So i thought that maybe a standard cable would be able to get external power via the USB port or AC from the wall, but nobody has answered.

you want a cable with ferrite cores (the thing that is cylindrical near the end) what it does is filter out the Radio Frequency (RF) in the cable so it sosen't get in your sl-10

p.s. i don't think that you can power the sl-10 through the USB port. you'll need an AC adaptor. i've tried it

I thought that had to do with the specific cable provided by Sony.
Did you buy a sync/charge cable and try plugging that into the PC USB port and universal connector on bottom of SL10? That would be nice to know.
Also, if you could get a regular miniB USB cable, I've seen AC adaptors that you can plug the USB cable into. I'd like to know if you can power with this USB-AC adaptor by plugging the miniB end into the jack on side of SL10.
