I really dislike built-in fonts on the Palm, either small or large. The first program I bought for PalmTX was FontSmoother and I love it. I am using primarily Utopia and Charter fonts. However, neither one of those scales down well -- they become not so legible in small size.
Can anyone recommend a FontSmoother font (either free or paid, it is worth it to me) that can look good in both 15pt (for instance) but also scaled down?

IMHO, Arial looks the best when scaled down - I use Arial 11pt as my default font, and my launcher scales it down for my tabs - it's the only one I've found that scales down really nicely.

Is that a FontSmoother font?

I bet PCQ used easyconvert and converted herself the windows-truetype arial font.
To me, 11pt is too small a size for my palm, iŽd try 12pt as well.

Arial is the default Microsoft sans-serif font. The Apple equivalent (sort of) is Helvetica. I'm not sure what the FreeFont equivalent is.

But then, Alex's converter program only runs on Windows, which always has Arial installed.

A Serif font that I find works at all sizes is Seagull. This is a paid-for font however -- one of the places to get it is with the Corel Suite.

Actually, I got the font in a zip file (don't remember from where). I can send it to you if you like. I don't use Windows so I can't use the convertor program.

I've attached a couple of screen shots to show how it looks small and regular size. There is no 12pt included in the zip file only 10pt and 11pt (plus a bunch of other fonts).

I tried converting from WIndows using Alex's convertor, but it does not look as nice as yours. Could you send it to me, please?
Thanks

Arial is the default Microsoft sans-serif font. The Apple equivalent (sort of) is Helvetica. I'm not sure what the FreeFont equivalent is.Actually, Helvetica is the original, and Arial is a knock-off.

Helvetica was designed by Alfred Hoffmann with Max Miedinger in 1957 for the Haas type foundry of Basel, Switzerland, and was formerly called Neue Haas Grotesk.

There are bad feelings in the type world about MS doing a knockoff instead of licensing the original.

My preferred font for FontSmoother is Microsoft's Candara webfont. I use 13pt for menus and 9pt for Plucker.

You know you can also turn off the font substitution for the small fonts (there is an option in the advanced settings). This will cause some placement problems in some apps, but in other apps it'll work fine.

You can get EasyConvert and make it yourself if you have Windows.

Recently, MS has been patenting fonts. This means that recent MS fonts probably can't be legally distributed in the US even in bitmap format. (Old fonts were copyrighted, but in the US that would probably only apply to the ttf, not the bitmap format the FontSmoother uses.) IANAL.
