Palm addict makes speculations on Sharp's new device that has been in development for five years.

Sharp has issued other devices, one black and white personal information machine(the cheapest on the market) and the more popular sidekick. Zaurus has been using linux, but the news that they will be using Access's ALP is great news for Palm Users.

Many Palm users have been using Sharp produced screens, so it llooks like there maybe another PDA comming around.

I don't believe it will be a PDA. Sharp is manufacturing, Access is providing the OS and Emblaze Mobile from Israel is the brand. The carriers of course will want their customization. Some of what I have read about ALP indicates a high level of customization to carrier specifications.

This is not different to what the situation for Treos has been: Palm is the brand, PalmSource/Access provide the OS and ODMs like HTC manufacture.

Yeah, as you could see from the sidekick, which is also said to be manufactured by Sharp, it would more likely be an Emblaze design, not a Zaurus like design. Only difference Sharp makes here is good quality.

It would be a much different story if it's a Sharp branded device :)

Sharp makes a lot of great devices. I loved my Zaurus and the screen on it was the best they ever made. The Sharp screens on Palms tend to be lower quality than the Sony ones IMO. Sharp currently makes WM überphones for the Japanese market.
