View Full Version : Video Conversion Problems

In the past few weeks I've played with video conversions to get from various formats to CLIE format, with a fair degree of success, and I've posted my findings here.  However, I've now stumbled across a major problem that may not be 100% related to my NX70V, but I'm hoping someone has experienced and resolved the issue I face.  So far I've surfed the net extensively to find a solution but to no avail.  Here's my issue:

Convert from AVI/MPEG to CLIE format:

First I use VirtualDub to get the original file into a format Image Convertor understands.  Second, I use Image Convertor to get the resulting file into a format my NX70V understands.  This works in general, but for no apparent reason I'm now having big issues.

The issue I face is that when using either VirtualDub or Image Convertor (or possibly some other video processing utilities) my PC freezes and the only way I can regain access is to reboot.  This seems to happen at completely arbitrary times.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Has anyone else resolved this?

My system is Win XP Pro with 1G RAM & 1.1GHz AMD.  I've tested the RAM, I've used System Restore to go back to make sure things haven't been corrupted, I've used Win debug programs, checked VirtualDub & Sony websites, I've even rebuilt my machine tonight, and it still happens.

Posting here is my last resort, after all my assistance in getting vid's onto other people's CLIE's I'm hoping someone can help me!

BTW Eddy, this is happening with the movie your looking for, until it's fixed you can only get the second half...

I've had similar problems. Stops after I defrag hard drive. I'm on Sony notebook AMD 1.2ish, 512k RAM. Works for me. Hope this helps.

I've now figured it out - it's summer time in Hong Kong!

My video card/computer was overheating. So I've taken the case off and turned on the air conditioning and it now works. If only I tried this simple thing two weeks ago.

I've got the 7episodes of Animatrix here with me but all confused with the codec and compression and everything, still can't get it to bypass the ImageConverter, I've read somewhere posted that MPEG4 also works on the Clie, I think, my head is coming out with smoke......

This might seem like a curious name for a link but the program it hosts may be of use. The program determines which codecs were used in making the specified movie. I'm 100% sure but it seems to only recognise the codecs you have installed on your computer. This however might give you some pointers.

As for converting direct to Image Converter, I've thought about it and played a little. However, I'm not sure the effort it would take would give much benefit. Every video codec software I 've used so far doesn't recognise CLIE format. Even if you get the right codec you still have to worry about bit rate and image size. I've kind of given up on that for the moment.

yeah, I'd say you got that right Halesy, doing all these editing & spending so much time behind the PC just kinda knocks me out of my mood at the moment.

I like to show off my NX with video clips & all, but all these valuable time spent behind the PC, just to get a clip into the NX! I do admit I gain experience & becoming a little bit more aware of all these video encryption things. But sometimes you just get so discouraged. :)

& the worst thing is you can already view the clip on the PC! where getting things you saw on VCD or the TV to go into the PC, and now to complicate things even more, I need to see a Doctor. :D

Oh, Halesy, hope you didn't misunderstand me & thought I was taking the heat on you. :D I was just saying that it's tiring at times when you have to find the correct codec as well as the compression & etc...

You know I've finally came out with a formula for one of the episodes of the Animatrix, as a start that is. which is good. :D

the *.avi couldn't work in VirtualDub, becoz the audio was inside as a part of the video. so if I force it to extract another avi file, it'll only have picture but no sound, to work around that I had to copy the track's sound into *.wav then combine with the original *.avi (that only had video), mix up the two then extract another *.avi which finally managed to go through the ImageConverter. My Gosh..... devistating...
