It would be nice to have an app that could remap hard buttons and navigational pad depending what application you are in.
For instance, when you are in a doc reader, you could assign some menu actions (such as "next page") to specific hard buttons, whereas when you are in a music player you could assign the same buttons to other actions (such as "next track" or "volume up").
Yes, some better apps allow you to remap hard buttons already, but such an ability is limited. It would be nice to have a system tweak that could be programmed for each app to tailor each user's needs. I would imagine that the user would just need to use "getcoords" DA to find IDcodes for each application of interest and then set up the hard key mapping that way.
Maybe, this exists, already??

I want the same too.

Nobody else seems to care, though...Hmmm
Im mildly interested in this
Most of my hardkeys are set to do many universal tasks
Hk1 = Recent and favorites menu list (11 apps)
Hk1 hold = Open (accessorized DA)
Hk2 = standard calendar (yes I use this :p ), calendar veiw shift
Hk2 hold = Documents to Go
Center key hold = SNAP (email, tasks, calendar, memo generator)
Hk3 = Meta DA (list of DA's (23 DA's)
Hk3 hold = Pocket Tunes Launcher (ptunesDA (consol and App)
Hk4 = Comandbar (programs and functions in comand bar)
Hk4 hold = Blazer
As you can see, I use all of my hardkeys: by disabling one to make room for specific functions in programs would leave 2 of my universal functions, useless
If im correct, almost every palm user on 1src has their hardkeys used up (much like I have).
This is probably why no one else is very interested.

What utility do you use right now to program your hard keys?
Myskin, you mean you dont have it O.o?

the best thing would be if A. Pruss implements a feature to asign the buttons macro per applicaion. For now is just possible to disable the macros for some apps (list with check boxes). Say in moe paint, palm pdf, bible reader, etc etc...

I guess what I want is a little different than most users want.
Most users seem to use their hardbuttons primarily for launching (hence universal). I would like to use them for program functions more. I just think that all those program-specific command-bar shortcuts (for pulldown menu items) are really uncomfortable to execute. So, I would like to remap some of them.

I use it primarily to map the BT button on my Zodiac to nothing, as I am constantly pressing it while trying to do something else.
My wish list for SharkBtn includes program specific mappings, and the ability to map buttons to other buttons that aren't on the device. (I have a Tapwave Zodiac 2, with a non-standard button layout, that doesn't have the usual Palm "hard buttons", and I've had instances where I wanted to press a button and have the program I'm using see a button my device doesn't happen to have.)
Tyler said he was compiling a database of buttons on various devices and what codes they generated to address that specific issue, but that was a while back, and SharkBtn doesn't seem to have gotten attention in a while.

I recently suggested something (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130238) that goes more or less in the same direction.
The only slight difference is that instead of MyKbd allowing you to set different macros for different apps, I suggested it could have a new keyword allowing a single macro to operate differently in different apps.
My purpose in asking for this is basically the same that the original poster in this thread has - using buttons for functions, not just launching apps. I think it could be VERY useful, only we don't see it now because we're just not used to thinking of buttons that way...

Try pToolSet by Paul Nevai (http://www.paulcomputing.com) It is a virtual swiss army knife of utilities, being perhaps the single most functional app for Palms. You can have up to 64 apps/macros/scripts/functions, etc assigned to each key!

And so you did! I am not a good reader at all, I am afraid..
Anyway, let's hope it gets implemented..

I looked it up and it sounds like a very complete but a complicated app (or set of apps)... I'm not sure I want to install it and spend lots of time exploring it...
You wouldn't mind elaborating a bit and explaining, from your experience, how exactly this 64 apps/macros/scripts/functions per button works?
Thanks in advance!

I'd like to see something like this too. For example, I use WebPro and would love to have the dpad left button make it act like "go back" to the previous web page. Right now, I have to select the small back arrow at the top. Yanoff+ did it right by making all of the buttons fully customizable to do just about anything within that application. It would be great to see something like that customized per application.
