I do computer repair on the side, and one of my customers who loved my NR70v thought he'd try to get a NR70v on Ebay. Well it has problems.

When the unit starts up afer a hard reset, it goes to the white Palm Powered logo screen then to the black screen with the white lettererd Sony and CLIE and makes it's welcome tone . BUT, it only shows the top half of the screen. then it goes to the welcome setup screen telling to remove the stylus and hit the center of the target X, then the next X in the upper left corner, and then the lower right corner. Then is just alternates from the upper left corner and lower right corner asking for taps in the center of the X.

I have tried many hard, warm and soft resets. I also found that the unit will not take a charge. I thought that if I cracked the case, and removed the battery then replaced it. That might do something, but it didn't. I also tried putting my battery in to check it that way, and the problem still occurred. The battery has some damage, but has been removed from the system at this time. Any way of flashing the system to help it?

Thanks all

well, the app that syncs the screen to the digitizer (tapping the X) is done in such a way that if the tap is considered too far from the X then it assumes user error and retries until you hit the X close enough for what it considers proper calibration. My guess is that there is some kind of problem with the digitizer.
a couple suggestions:
try hitting the screen progressively further left or right to maybe find a point where the two (digitizer and screen) will calibrate. I have no idea if this will work though.

The other idea is to try and hotsync it while it is in this state, maybe the calibration will be bypassed in the process. I have no idea if that will work though. If it does, you can do a backup on your handheld and load it to his which will then load your calibration specs.

Really I am just pulling those out of my rear end though, I think you may be in need of a new digitizer ($100 from Sony plus $25 shipping).

ONe thing this person could do, if they were in possession of questionable morals would be to remove the backplate of someone's NR which was under BB or other like warranty, hand it in for analysis by the pros, and then you would at least know what is wrong with it. If BB (or whoever) decided it warranted replacement, the owner of the backplate would have to decide what to do about it, but could simply ask for it back, broken and all leave it to your client to send in to Sony.

IN any case, I hope that helps, good luck
