Has anyone noticed that the threads started here are about there NR dieing, breaking, or not doing this or that? Well I for one would like to see some good stuff. Like new apps. or the fact that someone has coded Wonderskin to work on our NR's (I wish) or stuff like that. Reading these threads I look for my NR to disintegrate into dust any minute. I love my NR but I am starting to wonder how long my love will last. It seems as though all skin development for the grif. and status has come to a screaching halt for OS4! Whats up am I left here to die with my NR? Do I have to upgrade to OS5 to enjoy new development?

Just some thoughts.

Thanks for your time.

Reading these forums one thinks that the NR is ancient history. I stopped looking and am falling in love with my NR all over again :D
My NR is still the top PDA among my colleagues/friends and I'm still the only one. And it didn't break, the MS always worked, the hinge does not squeek and the buttons still work ;)

Good to here it! My NR is still more advanced than any one I know around me.

same here, my NR still blows away my friends every time. The next coolest handheld amongst those I know is a m515, and I mean... come'on.
besides, the NX is really too thick for my tastes

Hi, my name is Bob. And I love my NR70V. It is a wonderful little machine and it serves my needs quite well.
I know some of the new kids are all excited about os5, or bluetooth, or WIFI. NX this. NZ that. I'm happy for them.
But, even at the advanced age of 6 months, my Nr still Rocks.
Sure, we don't post as often as we used too-but we're gonna be OK. Dammit-we are going to be OK!
Could we get together every Tuesday for support? I'll bring the cookies.

I've had my NR70V almost since it came out, but nothing since has persuaded me to change. The Clie was a big step up from my Visor Prism, but nothing so far, including OS5, or devices rumored to be on the horizon, really compel me. Now if they come out with the rumored new NX with Bluetooth *and* Sprint offers a Bluetooth CDMA phone, I might consider an upgrade. Otherwise, I'll stick with what I've got, unless it dies <knocking on wood>. And I still find plenty of new software, etc. to play with. Bully for you with your latest and greatest, but I'm happy as a Luddite ;) (and owning an NR70V makes a Luddite? Sheesh).

I loved my NR70, but I gave in to the urge to upgrade. The NR is thinner, lighter, has more ram, and is hack-able. Can't argue with facts, but the NX offered a mediocre camera (as opposed to horrible), wireless capabilities and is just down right gorgeous. From fonts to icons to animations the NX just does everything my NR did but better. I will always love my NR, it was my first PDA that showed me the possibilities available, and should be revered for creating one of the best form factors in PDA history. I am currently very happy with my new NX, until I get that upgrade itch again in about 11 months...

I have a NR70 and NX60 and love them both. Though when the new keyboard comes out that supports the NX I will have to say goodbye. :(

My NR still blows away other handhelds as well. At least I can use my Storaway Keyboard to type documents and play Columns with my game controller.

I love my NR also. I bought it right when they were released. I don't see a valid replacement coming along until OS6. OS5 does not improve on what I already have. The only thing I would like to improve is the MP3 player.

I couldn't resist. I have a T665 and yes it ROCKS. I friend has a T|T, but there is nothing he can do that I can't - and the 665 is smaller. When you carry it ALL THE TIME that means a lot.

I see some intersting things coming out, but nothing that excites me as this did before I bought it.

I'm waiting for an OS6 665 type (and size) with virtual grafitti and at least 64M of memory. Now that will blow the doors off of even a few PC's that are still around.

Oh yea, its nice to hear good things once in a while.

the stowaway xt will support the nr series as well, according to brighthand.

I also still own and use an NR. I really don't understand why anyone would be excited about OS5. What's the point in 25% LESS memory and LESS software compatibility? A faster CPU doesn't do me much good if it doesn't run the software I want it to.

And "PortableCow" I can connect to the internet just fine with my NR and Bluetooth.

I'll upgrade once OS6 CLIE launches. In the meantime, I'm still drooling over the slim form factor, clamshelled NR....

I keep going to stores to look at the Tungsten C (I'm drooling over the extra memory) - and each time I walk away without buying it. I still love my NR. I have enjoyed customizing it with skins and so forth. It is still the coolest PDA on the market. So what if the camera ain't all that? I still can get my work done, play a few games and listen to some music. Not much else I need a PDA for.

my nz90 is much brighter, faster, can read m/s pro and CF, can surf the web via bluetooth and wifi, and fun than my nr70v. the photos with flash rock. but that doesn't mean i don't still love my nr70v.

My NR travels with me to classes all the time (going on one year now) in the back of my backpack exterier pocket. No troubles at all after the MS paper fix! Full screen, Kinoma movies, iSilo, megacalc, not to mention datebk and Zlauncher make this a keeper. I just wish I could remove the camera and get $100 back.

05-07-2003, 11:25 PM
why didn't you just buy the version without a camera?

Yodar
05-08-2003, 12:25 AM
Good question. I thought at the time that I would be able to use the camera to take pictures of the chalkboard instead of taking notes. I found out later that the camera's resolution and lense doesn't lend itself to that sort of thing. Hence the "wish" to sell the camera for $100 after I've owned it a year already. ;)

Hey Mr T, it sound like you have had some experience owning different Clies. Why not become a registered user and part of the community? I lurked here for about a year (only posted as a guest a few times) until I realized that I might as well join. Come on in the water is fine!

My NR70V does me just fine. Sometimes wish I had paid the extra £50 for the NX70 as it was just coming out when I bought my NR.

Having said that my NR70V does everything I want and is a huge step up from my last (and first) PDA which was an M100.

I have only had my NR for about a month. I bought it used, in mint condition. It has so far been as reliable as my S320. However, I don't ever think I will be able to part with the S320, it has been bulletproof.
Once Stowaway releases the XT for the NR, I might then seriously consider giving up the ghost though.

Call me a very satisified Sony customer for nearly 3 years. By the way, my first PDA was a Palm Pilot Professional!

A colleague of mine recently got an NX70, and I'll admit, I like the way it seems to operate, but I really don't like the default launcher. Anyone else?

And I never had an app not run on the NX except for hacks, and all the hacks I liked have been replaced by OS5 stand-alone versions. Plus, I have some software that is OS5 only, so I would say MORE software runs under OS5 than under OS4. Maybe you personally use some specific software that isn't OS5 compatible, but unless it's really old and poorly programmed, it's not likely. To be honest, I wasn't excited about OS5 either until I experienced it; it really is a big step up. This is coming from someone who was forced to upgrade too, since my NR battery died.

hey rldunn,

I haven't "seen" you since PDABuzz days. Nice to see you've found a home. I tuned in to this board a little late, nice place to hang out.

Glad to have you here!! I'm surprised anyone actually remembers me from PDABuzz; I was more of a lurker there and didn't post a ton. But that was a great board, and this place has turned into a great board with a ton of Clie knowledge. You'll have to go to the general forum and put your entry in the "How you found out about CS thread".

I miss my NR. I was forced to upgrade to the NX but am not having an easy time with the transition. Guess I just can't get into learning the new unit.

rldunn, not to sound like a jerk or anything but why would you come to a "I want to hear some good things about the NR" and talk about your NX, kinda lame rubbing it in isn't it?

rldunn

It wasn't my intention to rub anything in. The NR is a great device, probably the most innovative PDA ever!! I would still own one if my battery hadn't gone bad. I was just trying to answer the questions GeekGod posed, since I think those are some common misconceptions. But I was definitely not trying to rain on anyone's parade, though I can see how it might look like that. Sorry.

Why don't you take picture of friends for your address book?

ClieConvert, the Palm Pilot Pro! That was my first too. The PPPro was cutting edge, the PalmIII was exciting, the PalmV was a revalation. Handspring made some nice machines for its time, but the next great leap forward for me was the NR70. Like the first Palm Pilot, when I saw it, I had to have it. The NX sounds like a good machine, and a significant improvement over the NR, but it just doesn't scream, "Buy me!" I guess I'm waiting for the next kick. That might come with Bluetooth, if if I can get a BT (CDMA) phone to go with it.

I would except I don't have any friends... worth taking pictures of :)

But really, the camera just isn't very useful to me in general.

Without question, the sleekest looking PDA is the NR (admittedly the NX is right behind)
I love the size and people freak when I pull this out.

This is important to me, as the look of it (not to mention size) determines where I take it. I have pulled out my NR (with my Vaja case or not) at gatherings and even at dates, with no hesitation, people and girls are always impressed, especially if I just use my finger and no stylus,,,,,this removes the geeky ness. Having said that….a built in flash would be very nice.

I’m tired of people that have no clue about PDA’s always asking if ..”Oh is it a phone too?…can you go wireless?…Do you get the internet?…….”

They have no clue! an it takes too long to explain to them that yeah I could get a Blue tooth phone an MS chip, but for what 28.8 download speeds?….yeah I could get LAN, but for what to access the net at home right beside my computer (or upstairs)??, or wonder where the closest free access point is?…… BESIDES! All this would still be a factor with the NZ & NX.

Thus, for Wireless access I can’t see what the improvement is, besides, if I’m not mistaken, you can purchase a LAN (CF-SLOT) back-pact adapter @ Brando for the NR. (?)

I’m waiting for the next Sony PDA…with the cell phone and PDA combination, that will be here soon…you can count on it.

Yup, the NR is still tops in my book. The CF "tumor" on the NXs is a deal-breaker for me, as is 320x320 resolution - which covers pretty much every other PalmOS PDA out there. No, I'm waiting for a hires+ tablet PDA with built-in Bluetooth to go with my Moto V600.

Looks like I'll probably be waiting a while - for both devices...

-Adam

PS - You wanna talk about cool? I played the second Animatrix clip on my NR70V for Hugo Weaving at the Matrix premiere in LA. Can't beat that with a stick. The security was airtight with respect to recording devices, right down to "guards" stalking the aisles with night-vision goggles to check for people with cameras. Still, no one questioned my NR at the inital spot check in the theater. Suckers!
