It is time for me to put my trusted T5 to rest and buy a new PDA. My T5 will be 3 years old in October. I normally upgrade every 2 years or so but I've been waiting...waiting....and waiting for something new from Palm. Should I keep waiting for a refreshed version of the T|X to be released this year or is that just pie in the sky? I could probably wait a few more months but I'm not prepared to wait until summer or fall of next year. I need to make a move now.

Any thoughts?

P.S. Not interested in buying a smartphone!

I was tempted to do the same but a slower processor and less memory (coupled with the oft reported screen calibration drift) the TX seems to be a downgrade - I know it has WiFi built-in but I have the WiFi card (IMHO, that seems to be the only bit of the T5+>TX that was UPgrade).

Having said that, Palm seems intent on limiting support for the T5 on Vista...

1. TX has the same processor as the T5 -- however, you need PXA Clocker, WarpSpeed, LightSpeed (works with TX now, reportedly), or DynaClock to take advantage of faster CPU cycles.

2. I've owned 3 TXes and never experienced this oft reported screen calibration drift.

3. Palm has horrible support for the TX compared to its other offerings.

4. regarding item 1, I think Palm made the right choice in setting the default CPU value to 312 instead of 416MHz -- for standard apps, the difference isn't noticeable.

Just make sure you toss in all the free hacks available around here if you get a TX -- there *are* a number of things to watch out for, and a number of hacks people have come up with to vastly improve the TX experience.

Well. . .I've been a TX user for a calendar year now. I'm on my third TX. I returned the first after about three months, and the second about four months after that. The digitizer went all flaky on me--weird random jumps and such. The problem never happened until I had been using it several months. . .so I've abandoned Palm's warranty service and gone with a glass digitizer. Chris Short is installing it now. From what I read on this board, that is the best bet to solve Palm's design flaw.
