Hello,

I have been wondering about the advantages and disadvantages between Quick Office premiere vs Document To Go. Bottom line, I would like to be able to edit when open docs in either of these two, if possible.

For those of you who have had experiences with both or one or the other, please kindly share your thoughts.

Thanks in advance,
John

Tried the full version of both and settled on Docs to Go Pro. QO is good but it was just more buggy for me. I have DTGP flashed into my ROM and it runs GREAT! I can load files, edit them and then when I re-sync the word/excel file I changed is updated. W orks perfect, never had a crash...

Thank you, ashVID.

Can't go to sleep to sleep, too?...just kiding...

BTW...are you in west coast or where. I am in east coast but can't sleep now. Too many decisions needed to be made, pathetic...

That is awsome. You can actually edit and then save your work. How about power point docs, can you edit them as well?

Just the fact that you can edit in word/exel should help reduce the stress of trying to make my decisions.

Thanks again,
John

I too have used both full versions and prefer QO Premier. I'll admit, the interface is a little awkward but native document editing is what puts it over the top. If Docs to Go ever gets that going, I'd switch back, Who really has time to create a doc(either on the PC or Clie), then sync it back(to the correct PC that has Docs to Go on it) just so you can print the document or do final editing? With QO, all I have to do is have the NX USB driver installed and I can transfer my documents to any PC.

This is a really hard choice. I felt bad giving up Docs to Go, but I love not having to sync files anymore!

It really depends on your needs. If you want to edit native MS documents then QO is the way to go--in fact, it's the only way to go. But if you don't mind HotSyncing to do a back-and-forth conversion, then I would go with Doc2Go. Why? QO was WAY too buggy for me. It crashes frequently for me while Doc2Go just never crashes. I have used both and I too have settled on Doc2Go flashed into ROM.

Download 'em both and try 'em out yourself. D2G is free with your Clie (at least it was with my NX70) and QO offers a free trial.

DTG crashed poor Fred too often.

QO seemed to have no advantages over Wordsmith other than its integration with my Word menubar. Since I mostly edit in a texteditor anyway, that was, essentially, moot.

I like the CONCEPT of native editing, but haven' had trouble with the converted docs so don' see the point, really.

Bottom line: I'm back with WS.

I think Docs to Go is adding native MS document support soon or so they e-mailed me so.

I like D2G It takes care of most things in one package and has never been a stability problem in the 3 years I have owned it.

Tixx is right, I'd stick with DocsToGo. Plus, most got it free w/their Nx70 anyways...

I tested both and decided to opt for Docs to Go Pro - only issue is that it does not run from the MS if you want to be able to vire/edit email attachments in Datavz Mail. I too have not had crash with it.

Cheers

I prefer Quickoffice Premier. I don't know what it is about Documents to Go, it just rubs me the wrong way I guess. Way to clunky. I should point out that I use Wordsmith for document editing rather than Quickword. I have Quickword on my MS so that I can do native file editing if I need it.

I use DTG Premier because it allows editing of real tables.

For me I could care less about the native viewing. If you are DLing emall attachments then I guess it would make sense. For me, I have to hotsyn to get the file on/off the clie anyway and the "conversion" takes only a couple seconds. No big deal...
QOP was very unstable so I didnt mess with it for very long.

I've been a happy D2G user since it came out. The bigger issue for me is whether or not tables are supported (almost all my docs use tables for one thing or another). If you need to edit/use /view tables, D2G is the best, Wordsmith seems to have better support for bullets/fonts, and the only advantage that QOP has is the ability to support native mode. Just my opinion, but I've never been disappointed with Docs to Go.

I like QO.

I can review my powerpoint slides, check my spreadsheets [budgets and lists] and see my Word docs.   Has worked very well for me most of the time.

I use WordSmith for reading and simple docs and memos.

I totally agree with you volcanopele. I can't really put my finger on it, but DTG just creeps me out - kind of like watching the Michael Jackson Home Movies. Just gives me the willies.

I dig Docs-To-Go mainly because it's cross platform. I use both Macs and PC's and it syncs perfectly on both each and every time.

DTG does not have a file size limitation like the other product does... and you can drag and drop onto the desktop application... is is just so easy to do...

Well, why in ROM? I only put the DOCUMENTS program in Flash. The rest is on MS besides the libraries. That's not that fast, but i have more space left in my rom and ram. :-)

RAM took up too much room and MS was too slow...I thought the "documents" could not be moved from ram? hhrrrmmm

I think whether DTGP works from MS or not is clear - some poeple have got it working whilst others cannot. The developers have confirmed as yet it does not support MS.

I cannot get it working from MS so all in RAM

"Whilst."

How archaic, how lovely, how.. Englishmajorish. Garrison K would be so proud..

Solution for you, lalit: Wordsmith.

Thanks for the inputs

I prefer Quick Office because of its ability to use the full screen. DTG can't take advantage of the virtual graffitti.
