Is there anything that can just change the icons for a Palm TX without changing the interface or anything? I like using SkinUI, but I wish there was a way to change the apps the same way Zlauncher does without taking away the original way you view and select the apps. I just want to use the icons here http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1615 but I haven't found a solution for what I'm looking for.

IconPlus can change application icons. It has it own format, but is also backward compatible with ZLauncher icon sets :)

Yup, IconsPlus is what I use to change app icons you can use any ZLauncher iconset plus several others (although I can't remember now which - but it's on the website). There's also AppIcon (freeware) but there aren't as many iconsets that are available for it. Make sure you only use AppIcon v1.0 (NOT v1.3) if you're using this on a TX (probably a T5 or LifeDrive also).

cool, thanks for this. I read that Modificon is free and does the same so I'm gonna try that.

Ummm...Yeah, I hope you have better luck w/ Modificon than I just did. I just DL'd it & insalled, it only appears to be able to swap icons with another app. My french is rusty so maybe I'm doing somethnig wrong. Do you have a link to an english site for Modificon? Google gave me a lot of non-english sites.

If your creative, and you make an iconset for IconPlus (it has to be in the IconPlus format, not in the ZLauncher format. So no you can't use ZLIF, you have to use the always easy pilrc  ), they'll give you a free license!

good challenge. Well, looks like IconPlus (Modificon wasn't what I thought) will be the only solution BUT I did find it a bit unstable. I had about 3 reset within an hour. Not too uncommon from what I hear, but I'll see what I can find. It also doesn't show BrightnessFix app when active and if you try to change it, it just resets (same with OffFlush).

I've been using IconPlus for a while, and the only time I've ever had a problem is one time when assigning a set, but how often have I done that? Not many....

I have the exact same problem w/ IP sometimes. I've reported it to the devs but never got a fix. :( The problem is usually with apps that don't have their own icon (ie: BrightnessFx). I usually use AppIcon to change those. I know it's a pain to have 2 apps to do similar things, but slightly diiferently. IP will change the ROM icons too & has more iconsets available. Appicon will change icons for those apps that IP crashes with... I have also found increased stability by locking IP w/ RescoLocker.

Best you know all this before you pay for IconsPlus :)

wow, got bad resets now. I can't even get past the preference panel before it resets. Pretty sad now. Guess it's not meant to work out. I emailed them and told them, but I guess that's a fat chance because the rest of the people that complained about this did the same with no result.

If you find that IP crashes when changing the apps that don't have icons, just go into a rsrc editor like BIRD, and create tAIB ID 1000, and 1001 bitmap families. Make sure to make a 1/2 bit icon and an 8/16 bit one too (they can be blank), and then try to see if IP still crashes. If it does then either you didn't do what I said right, or not having an icon is not the problem.... or is this just me rambling on :D ?

p.s. make sure to research the legal icon sizes.

well, it turns out I was able to change the icon (I guess it just reset those times I tried to change by coincidence). I just started getting a bunch of resets non-stop so I hard reset and restored.

EDIT: I hate being so persistent, but I wanted this app to work so bad. I did what I read (I think from PQ) and used Resco Locker to lock the app. It seems a lot more stable now. I guess when the dbcache is flushed it messes up. Hopefully the developers make it better because something about RL makes me wonder about the stability of my Palm and being able to run hungry apps like LJP. Thanks for the help everyone. :D

also, it works better if you have it as a prefs pannel. cuz if you have IP as a normal app, you will need to put it on the unchache list (if u r using this) and that doesnt play well...

I have IconsPlus as a pref panel and it caused my device to reset when doing backups with BackupMan. I found locking it with the free app. Resco Locker fixed this problem, FWIW.

Found here:

Just-to-let-you-know, I also Resco Lock IP, I had totally forgotten that I did that, until PCQ mentioned it. IIRC pre-Rlock it was also very unstable, but now it's been fine :)

I still use appicon as mentioned earlier (v 1.0).

Here (http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=244980) is an approach that does work well to permanently change icons or to add them to applications that lack them. It uses AppIcon and ChangeMe (or Bird if you are up to that) as a shuttle team to transfer icons between apps. It really does work. I've used it to make my AppIcon changes permanent. Read the initial post and some of the followup discussion.

FerdFerd,

Thanks for that great link!! I have always wondered about the problem LX had in displaying app icons that have been changed with AppIcon. This article explained it all and how to do the workaround - thanks.
