Does anyone know if I really need a Magicgate memory stick to play my MP3 songs with NX70V? It seems my SonicStage software won't recongize the Lexar Memory stick. If so, any alternatives to use the regualr memory stick to get around this problem?

Thanks:(

Any Memory Stick will play MP3's, but if you want to use the Sonic Stage software, you will need a Magic Gate stick, since that software converts your CD's to ATRAC3 format. Grab an app like Music Match to convert your CD's to MP3 format, then using MSImport on your Clie and copy the MP3's to the /PALM/Programs/MSAudio folder on your Memory Stick. When converting your MP3's, make sure the bitrate is 96kbs or higher and it can't be higher than 300 or so kbs. Also, don't use VBR (varible bit-rate).

Thanks for the info cbulock--

I'm using CDex to transfer to MP3 on my clie. The various songs are visible on the display on the audio player, as well as the remaining time, bitrate etc. It looks like the files have been copied correctly.

All seems well except that I don't hear anything when I play the songs back on the clie. I double (triple checked) to confirm that the headphones and audio adapter is working (I get sounds from other apps as well as the voice recorder, so I know it's working)

I tried different bitrates as well (160, 192, 224, 256) to see if it makes a difference.

Nothing--

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Thanks cbulock, your info is really helpful for me to save the extra mony that I would otherwise spend on purchasing a Magicgate. I talked to SONY rep and he told me I should buy a Magicgate to play the MP3! It's a bad after taste for me to think of what he told me and what he really knows.

Thanks a lot
