I'm new to the forum and have searched other threads with no luck. So I apologize if this issue has been addressed, but I can't get my T/X to read files on my 1 gb SD card. I know they are there. I can get the music player to play mp3 files, but no luck playing video files.

Checking some other forums and experimenting with it I finally got the SD card to read video files. A combination of correct formatting and loading files into the DCIM folder on the card.

Can you elaborate? What correct formatting and why DCIM folder?

Formatting, I don't know, but DCIM is Palm's photo/video storage folder, and that can't be changed.

Brent is right in that the photos and videos must be in that folder. When I formatted the SD card using the TX (not my PC) it created the DCIM folder. All is working now.

I don't understand this thread. I routinely swap my SD cards between my Canon camera and TX, also between an old Pocket PC and TX, and I can always read media files with no problem.. The Canon SD card was formatted by the camera, the pocket PC SD card was formatted by desktop and everything is happy...

For me, this works with 512 mB, 2 Gb and 4 Gb cards..

Palm uses the DCIM (Digital Camera Images?) folder because everything else uses it too. So the only time you would run into that problem is if you specifically put Media in a different folder. And I'm assuming you did not do that?

Ah, OK, I get it.. I do seem to remember DCIM folders on my Canon-formatted card..

A third-party launcher such as LauncherX or ZLauncher will let you use any folders you want. The built-in launcher is somewhat limited.

We're not really talking about the launcher, but the Media application. Even though you can save images to other areas, and view them with other applications, the DCIM folder will always be the "Default" image place. And why fight the OS, it's not easier (actually harder) to store them in other places. In fact if you install PalmOne Files onto your Palm TX, you can access any image in any directory through the FileBrowserLib interface. But's that's another story, for another day....

Iīd like to hear about it. Itīs not strictly hijacking this thread :)

I once installed the files contained in some archive ripped off another device (lifedrive? T5?) together with the drivemode files (which i have put into ROM). they were sadly only with english language overlays, but all i saw was some sort of filebrowser app, which was a lot less functional than i.e. RE, FileZ or McFile. So what can I do with the FileBrowser stuff that canīt be done with another file manager?

I personally use the fact that the built-in media app only sees files in DCIM to my advantage. I have a bunch of jpgs that I use for wallpaper with my 3rd party launcher, but didn't want to see all of those every time I wanted to show someone a photo or look at pictures from my digital camera (my camera stores pictures into DCIM too). So I made a second folder called "Wallpaper" to store the background images in and leave the DCIM folder for photos and such.

FWIW, Docs2Go v9 will see pictures in any and all folders on the SD card. IIRC, there a couple of other image viewers out there that will find images anywhere on the card as well.

FWIW, Docs2Go v9 will see pictures in any and all folders on the SD card.So will Docs to Go v8, and it's a PITA if you don't use D2G to view them.

I prefer PalmPDF for PDF files and GRXView Lite for JPGs, and didn't even install the D2G PDF and JPG viewer components, but D2G insisted on finding PDFs and JPGs and putting them in the Documents listing...

A third-party launcher such as LauncherX or ZLauncher will let you use any folders you want. The built-in launcher is somewhat limited. The question is this case isn't the launcher, but the viewer app. Various Palm apps that can use data on a card are hardcoded about where to look, and won't see data in any location other than the one they are coded to look in.
