View Full Version : switching between T/E2 and Clie?

My T/E2 is in for repairs, and I was wondering if I could use my old Clie SJ22 in the interim until I get the E2 back. I know they use different OS versions, but I was thinking I could set up a separate folder for the SJ22 with just the basic apps like calendar and contacts.

Has anyone tried this, and can you give suggestions for how to do this? (Incidentally, I'm using a Mac).

Hi javabird,

I have a Clie NX60 (on PC) that just broke and received this week a brand new Tungsten E2 (on Mac).
I did not have problems to switch from the NX60 to the E2 (using missing sync). For the opposite transfer, your big issue will be that Clié is not supported on Mac so if I were you, I will try transfering files using my Mac in Windows mode using Boot camp.
I hope that it will work.

Thanks for your reply. I used the Clie SJ22 before I got the E2, so I know it will work on my Mac. I'm using it now while the E2 is being repaired, with a different Backup folder (I saved the T/E2's backup folder with a different name. I hope it doesn't mess up my E2 settings when I get it back, but I really have a hard time living without my PDA.)

Actually, now that I'm using it again, I really miss the Clie. I "upgraded" to the E2 for some of its newer features, but I have to say the Tungsten feels clunky in comparison and the Clie's scrollbar is a pleasure to use. I wish Sony hadn't discontinued the Clies.

After this experience, I don't think I will buy another Palm device. The repaire policy just takes too long. The T/E2 went crazy right after the warranty expired. Luckily, I had purchased an extended warranty, but the estimated repair time is about a month, and that's too long to be without a PDA! Back when I had a Handspring Visor and it needed repair, I was sent a replacement to use instead. Next time I will buy a device with a similar replacement policy (the iPhone or iTouch are looking more appealing all the time).

You could just create a new User and just import the calendar files, memo files, etc. That will have no effect on the Tungsten E2 files.
