Alan,
something went terribly wrong with the HTML settings on the headline article.

Na, not terribly wrong, just encoded wrong. All is right again with the world.

Should we pay any special attention to the fact that palm put a mini usb connector in this device rather than one of their own?

No, I don't think so. The a few of the Zires had mini-USB ports on them. This is probably just a space saving move to make the device smaller/thinner.

Tungsten E also had mini-USB. I loved it since I could use any mini-USB cable to sync or charge.
Maybe that is part of the reason why it got reinstated.

I expect miniUSB to be international standard. The Chinese government has asked for this as a standard for phones sold there.

Maybe that is part of the reason why it got reinstated.I agree. I have those cables at home, many spares at work, could buy one virtually anywhere.. and it's a better fit than Athena's clunky connector.
I'm hoping they roll this out across the board.

That's what I meant. In the newer devices they've been using their own connector, but I like the old Mini-usb and universal phone charger PDAs. I have a million of those mini-usb cables lieing around the house since you use em for everything from cameras to mp3 players. It'd just be nice that I don't have to purchase new car chargers etc.

Z22 also had mini-usb, and I liked better than the clunky, constantly loose connector that comes on my TX :)

Make sure you specify that the screen is 320x240. Not 320x420. Just wanted to point that out.
Alan I must say, you are definitely one of the people who are always optimistic when Palm is in a jam. Palm should hire you for their PR team. LOL. That way you can do their blog. As I said before, the Centro and Treo500v don't look bad and I bet they look better in person. Pictures can make certain devices look worse than in person. That's what I thought about the Dash until I saw it in person.
I really hope Palm releases a device with their new OS soon. I want multitasking Palm.
When do you guys think we'll see one. I'd even like to get a TX Phone with the Mini-keyboard app. But running the new OS.

It seems that Palm is favoring the mini-usb interface over the multiconnector to support the newer device.
Palm is not focusing entirely on smartphone and they are not starting to cater the needs of the non business audience. This is an improvement for Palm.....
BY the way does anyone have an idea in this forum on whether Palm will going to unveil a GSM version of the Centro...?

h/t to Surur at TC:
The bulk of Palm's software development spending is thus now aimed squarely at revamping Palm OS5 to work on a Linux core. But even that may be slipping: though earlier Colligan said that would appear in 2008, Palm this week told the Guardian "it will be 12 to 18 months" before a Linux Palm appears.
