For some reason last night I went to do a warm reset it some how turned into a hard reset (I wasn't holding the power button) anyway everything was erased in my ram and it showed the old crappy look of palm os and looking at the original and looking at what we've hacked up today the difference is like windows 95 and windows Vista :p Anyway I do a hotsync like 7 times a day (mostly just installing apps :) ) and I do a backup using sony's built in MSbackup app once a week. After restoring my apps it was really bad everything had a problem, I had to put the registration numbers back into my shareware apps, I had to re configure all my settings for most of my apps (I have allllot of apps), I had to reinstall allot of apps because some of its components were not there, I had to go back into Nremote and draw all the buttons again make the look exactly like my 6 different remotes and re teach it every button :) and im sure ill have many more problem this week. So can anyone recommend a good backup application that will restore my palm EXACTLY where it was after a hard reset??? (Must be compatible with Sony Clie nx7o)
Thank you

I use BackupMan on my iQue to backup onto the SD card. It has a small footprint and works fast. I've set it to do full backup once a day and diff backup every 6 hours, and I've restored several times with no problems.

I would suggest the fine free backup utility made by Pruss, NVBackup. It is available here (http://handypalmstuff.sourceforge.net/). Many people around here use this app and have tested it by doing a hard reset.

Resco Backup is also pretty good (not freeware though!).
I've been using it for the last 2 years without problems on my TX

I use Resco Backup, Resco Backup Pro (just upgraded - so not tested), NVBackup, and BackupMan. I know for a fact that BM and NVB restore my device to the exact state it was in before the Hard Reset. I've only tried this on my TX.

I forgot to mention that I've used Resco backup to restore my system after 5-6 hard resets without problems :)

I've bought, own, and used (in order of use) BackupBuddy VFS, BackupMan, and Resco Backup. I currently use and rely on Resco Backup and it has performed flawless restores dozens of times.
The reason for so many restores is my policy is to do a backup prior to trying any new application, and if it turns out I don't keep that application, I always do a hard reset / restore. That way I KNOW that it's as if the trial application never touched my device.
Although I haven't tried Pruss' NVBackup, I'm sure it is a great free product, as Alex writes great code!!! :)

I do a similar thing with NVB. I have around 15 backup sets. The great thing about NVBackup is that each backup set is commented. So for instance I can have one that just has the date and says "Stable", or I have more than a few that say the date and "pre inst" folled by the appname (pre inst d2g10). It is a real benefit to be able to see what each BU set was made for.

Be aware that Alex said that NVBackup is compatible with NVFS devices. I can't remember if the Clie NX70 is NVFS, and even if it is, it may have something Sony specific.
AFAIK, Alex programmed NVBackup having the TX in mind, and he fixed it so it works on TE2, Treo 650 and up.

None of the Sony PDA's have NVFS, just Palm's.
BTW: I use Resco's Backup for overnight and any large backups (I'm looking that Pro version over), and I use Northglide's OnGuard to run data backups when I exit specific apps that I use frequently.

Thanks guys I'm trying Resco Backup though will see how it is after a hard reset. Is there anyway I can get the memory stick pro driver to still be there after a hard reset? Because after a hard reset it can't read my card and I have to reinstall the driver in a hotsync and in the posses restoring my Clie to the hotsync's version of the backup.

wellsjs, if you install an app, you don't like, you hard reset/restore from backup  ? That would take me 30 minutes to do (30MB Free on TX), so I rely on Resco Explorer to uninstall stuff, it's not as good as the afore mentioned method, but it is OK. As for a backup program, I use NVBackup exclusively, as it reads/writes from the storage memory directly, and I have found this to be FAR more stable and effective than doing this operation from the DbCache. This is why - for me at least - NVBackup will not freeze, like any other backup program I've used. But I don't think your device is an NVFS one, so..... :(

I use Uninstall Manager to unistall stuff and it is great, especially if you had installed with their Sandbox method -- I never had a problem!

I don't have a sony myself, but I use PInstall to install my apps. This registers apps as if they hotsynced but only does the install conduit. It saves a lot of time!

It it possible to keep a copy of the Driver on the Card, then just install it with the Clie's builtin file manager? (sry I don't own a clie, never have).

Did you do a hard reset before using MSBackup to restore stuff? MSBackup works pretty well, though not perfectly, I think.

I should mention that regardless of which program you use, I found it useful to keep 3-4 revolving backups (from the last 3-4 days) as well as a manual backup every 2-4 weeks. This is in case you accidentally delete a file and don't notice it for several days, you have a remote backup set to restore from.

My Treo 700p (check my signature) is NVFS. I also use Uninstall Manager but I have also found it to occasionally miss stuff, thus arriving at my above mentioned methodology for trial runs of new apps. ;)

I found this was the only way I was able to revert to a previous version of showbattery (not henk's). A hard reset and full system restore from a previous backup. I had to do this a number of times in order to test SB. I now use version 1.0 due to conflicts I have with the later versions and mykbd.

Lol that makes no sense the driver is what makes the device read the card so how can I go into Clie files and move the driver back from the memory stick?

wellsjs, Probable the reason my device takes longer, is because I've used 84MB of storage, and that is probable more than the 755p has. And the second part of my first post was aimed at ammar766, with the NVFS and such (I know all resent palm devices use NVFS, including the 755p), I guess I didn't make that to clear :)

Your newly reset Clie will read it fine so you can load the Pro Driver and then swap memory cards. ;)

Exactly using any file manager my favorites the built in Clie files to simply move it to ram.
